Hi, I'm Perry, and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.
Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetic industry. This is episode 316 I'm your host, Perry Romanowski, and with me today is Valerie George. Hello, Valerie.
Valerie George (0:29)
Hi, Perry.
Perry Romanowski (0:30)
Valerie, was it my turn to do the intro or yours? I don't recall, I wrote the script.
Valerie George (0:35)
I think it was yours.
Perry Romanowski (0:36)
Oh, okay, there we go. That's right, I'm the even numbers. Well, you know, speaking of even, on today's show, we're gonna answer an even number of questions. Including, does mechanical damage on hair cause damage on the same bonds or chains as heat or chemical damage?
Interesting hair question. How effective are the Arey Grey products? Are probiotic home cleaning products effective? And what are our thoughts on the Regimen Lab skincare brand? So we got hair, we got skin and cleaning products today.
But first, some of our famous chit chat. Valerie, how are you doing today?
Valerie George (1:15)
I'm doing really good.
Back from traveling, I'm going to be here for quite a while. Not traveling a whole lot for the rest of the year. So I'm excited about that.
Perry Romanowski (1:25)
Well, I will be in LA in December.
Valerie George (1:27)
I can't wait to see you.
Perry Romanowski (1:30)
Yeah, we can meet then. We're actually going to first go to Hawaii and then on our way back, stop by LA.
Valerie George (1:36)
Oh, Hawaii is a bit further, but I do appreciate the method of going to Hawaii first. Sure, sure. Then back to LA. So it's a shorter flight home.
Perry Romanowski (1:46)
Exactly. A lot.
Should be a good trip there. And of course, I'm going on a trip to Chile and Uruguay in a couple of weeks.
Valerie George (1:55)
How exciting. Jet setting Perry. Maybe I'll do a solo episode, my first one.
Perry Romanowski (2:00)
Yeah, that would be great.
Now, speaking of solos or not solos, we were not on the podcast yesterday, but we were on an Instagram live event with the CTPA. That is the Cosmetics, Toiletries and Products, Personal Care Association, something like that, right?
Valerie George (2:18)
Yeah, but they're our friends in the UK.
Perry Romanowski (2:21)
They're right. That's the UK beauty industry. And we had a nice chat on their Instagram feed, just talking about the beauty industry and communicating information and misinformation. Well, we weren't communicating misinformation, but we were talking about how that exists online, right?
Yeah, yeah.
Valerie George (2:39)
I thought it was a really good dialogue.
It would have been nice to have a contrarian on the episode, that we were all like, yeah, we agree, we agree, we agree. It would have been nice to have someone who said, you know what, I disagree.
Perry Romanowski (2:51)
Yeah, and you know, I was trying to be a little bit controversial with some of my takes, but nobody was biting.
Valerie George (3:00)
Because we agree with your cynicism.
Perry Romanowski (3:02)
Yeah, yeah, so it's always a challenge when you get onto these things and everybody agrees, you know, if everybody agrees, what do you need anybody for? This is why The Beauty Brains podcast works so well, is because we do have a few areas of disagreement.
Valerie George (3:19)
We do, we do. And I think the listeners enjoy it.
Perry Romanowski (3:22)
Yeah, indeed.
You know what, I'm going to enjoy it tomorrow. I'm doing the Chicago Marathon.
Valerie George (3:28)
I thought I saw you wearing some neon clothing. Are you getting a little practice run-in today before the big event?
Perry Romanowski (3:34)
Well, you know, I am a streak runner. I haven't missed a day of running since 2008
Valerie George (3:40)
But you're not streaking while you run.
Perry Romanowski (3:43)
No, but I am juggling. No, it's streak running is you just every single day, no matter what, you're out there.
So yes, it is a day before a marathon. Often people will not go for a run, but I will because, you know, I got to keep the streak alive.
Valerie George (3:58)
Oh my gosh, you should have a shirt on while you run that says I also ran yesterday, and the day before, and 4,632 days before that, or whatever your streak is.
Perry Romanowski (4:09)
It's 5,066 today.
Yeah, there you go. This is also a significant marathon for me because it is my 44th. And when I did my first marathon, I set the goal back in 1996 to do 44 marathons. And so this is a culmination of my long-term goal, I guess.
