Hi, I'm Valerie and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Thank Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetics industry. This is episode 281 I'm your host, Valerie George, and with me today is Perry Romanowski. Hi, Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:27)

Hello, Valerie. It seems like forever since we've seen each other and recorded. It's great to see you.

Valerie George (0:33)

It's so good to see you. On today's show, we're gonna cover whatever happened to SD alcohol 40

Does sunscreen need to be applied to bare skin? Do facial oils penetrate deeper than a moisturizer? Is there any data to show that cockatoo plum actually benefits the skin like ascorbic acid? And should someone wear vitamin C day or night? But first, our chit chat.

Perry Romanowski (0:57)

Yes. Well, you know, we haven't had a show in a couple of weeks, and mostly that was because both of us were traveling.

I was in your state, California, and when I got there, you decided to leave to go to Germany.

Valerie George (1:12)

I said, Perry's coming, and I am leaving. That is for sure.

Well, yeah, so I was in Germany for a couple of weeks for work. I also have family there, so I got to visit with them, and that was really nice to see them and reconnect with them. It's been a couple of years since I saw them. But I am very tired.

I have an insane amount of jet lag right now because I was there for a bit of time. But it's a bummer we didn't get to catch up when you were here.

Perry Romanowski (1:39)

I know, well, maybe next time. Well, for sure next time. I'm sure I'll go out to California again. But California was lovely.

I only learned, I was in Palm Spring, and there's a lot of wind in Palm Springs.

Valerie George (1:53)

Oh yeah. Yeah, there's a bunch of windmills right outside of the town.

Perry Romanowski (1:58)

Well, in fact, I learned that Palm Springs has the biggest wind farm in the United States, so.

Valerie George (2:06)

Yep, yeah, it's pretty big. Yeah.

Perry Romanowski (2:08)

Yeah.

Valerie George (2:09)

What else has been going on with you?

Perry Romanowski (2:11)

Oh, not much, you know. So I was gone for almost after two weeks, and Porch Kitty hasn't come back. What? I haven't seen Porch Kitty, you know. Nobody was here to feed her while I was gone, and I was hoping she'd come, but I haven't seen her.

So somebody's still eating the food that I leave overnight, and they play with the cat toys I leave out, but I haven't seen Porch Kitty.

Valerie George (2:38)

Are you sure it's not Porch Kitty?

Perry Romanowski (2:40)

I'm not sure. I'm going to have to put a camera.

Valerie George (2:42)

Put a camera.

Perry Romanowski (2:43)

Like a night camera.

Valerie George (2:44)

Yeah, get a little Google camera.

Perry Romanowski (2:47)

There is actually one of Porch Kitty's tuxedo. I still see him, but I haven't seen Porch Kitty, so I'm kind of missing her.

Valerie George (2:55)

Oh, that's sad.

Perry Romanowski (2:57)

And you remember that lump that I had last time?

Valerie George (2:59)

Yeah, on your elbow. What did that end up being?

Perry Romanowski (3:02)

It was bursitis.

Valerie George (3:04)

Oh.

Perry Romanowski (3:06)

And yeah, it's gone away, though, finally.

Actually, I did this whole video about it, and it's just crazy. Maybe I'll share it for the patrons, so they can see the road to lump. Yeah.

But it turns out I didn't need to get it drained or anything. You could just do compression on it, and it eventually just went away. So there you go. So I'm healthy again.

Valerie George (3:33)

Oh, well, good, good. Well, let's head on over to Beauty Science News.

What did you do this week, Perry? Or what did you see on the news this week?

Perry Romanowski (3:48)

Well, there were a couple stories I saw, but the first one, and this was from a little bit while ago, but it was, there's this aromatherapy product.

Valerie George (3:57)

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Perry Romanowski (3:59)

It turns out that, now it's a room spray, so it's a little out of the cosmetic realm, but it's kind of, is in the, you know, this is the kind of products that we would possibly work on. But the laboratory testing at the US. Center for Disease Control and Prevention identified the bacteria Bercoldia pseudomonalia in an aromatherapy spray. And it's the same type of bacteria that sickened four people in the United States earlier in the year. So the spray is called Better Homes and Gardens Lavender and Chamomile Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray.
