Shooting at Beech Grove Firework Show

Big weekend of freedom-loving patriots loved seeing my timeline with people and their families and their patriotic gear. We will get to that. But Brian, first, I've got some good news and I got some bad news.

Let's hear it. Give me the good news first. Let's start off with the good.

**Hammer** (0:18)
The good news is that this past weekend, 4th of July fireworks downtown Indianapolis, there was not a mass shooting or grizzly murder in the tourist or hotel area.
Now, you may be thinking to yourself, well, you're not supposed to have those things. But last year, Brian, we had those things.

**Nigel** (0:47)
Yes, we definitely did. And you know, this just proves it proves that miracles may never cease. I mean, it's it's pretty amazing.
I don't want to be Mr. Negativity here. So I'm just going to say, hey, this is awesome. That's what a positive thing for us to have happen in Indianapolis. Somebody didn't get murdered.

So when you look at the numbers provided by the FOP over fourth of July weekend, five people shot, four stabbed, one killed. Now, that's Friday through Sunday. There's been more action today, but these numbers are just Friday through Sunday. And while that's not great, it's better than what we normally have at this time. This is kind of like when the Cleveland Browns have the lead at halftime. Look, it's not the greatest, but it's better than being down by 14

Oh, yeah. Moral victories, everybody, moral victories. And here's the thing.
Did the heat have anything to do with it? Was it just because people aren't coming outside and they were staying in the AC that drove this down? We don't know.

**Hammer** (1:51)
Or the rain, perhaps. It was a rainy 4th of July.

**Nigel** (1:55)
Yeah.

**Hammer** (1:56)
But still, five shot, four stabbed, one killed in downtown. When you break down the numbers, that's somebody shot or stabbed every eight hours in Indianapolis. In a 72 hour span, somebody was shot or stabbed every eight hours. Shootings are down.
Stabbings were up. So I think what we all need is moms demand action to start an anti-knife campaign because stabbings are up, right?

That just tells me. And it just proves what I complain about all the time. And Guy can definitely speak to this. Ammo's gotten way too expensive.
That's what it is. Knives go to the Dollar General, drop a bone on the counter. You got your knife. Ammo, expensive. Knives, cheap.

Chief Tonya Terry said there were no major violent incidents, but teenagers were still found out past curfew in significant numbers.
All right, fine. Listen, I will take my moral wins where I can get them. This was a hell of a lot better than the juvenile violence that we had a year ago. Okay, fine. That's the good news. Are you ready for the bad news?

Yeah, I'm ready for the bad news. Hit me.

My people of Beech Grove, Indiana, said, hold my beer. We're going to carry the torch of fireworks violence this year. So at the annual 3rd of July Fireworks Show they have at Sarah T. Bolton Park, everything's going fine, except for at the end of the night, group of juvenile knuckleheads go into like some sort of back alley near the park and gunfire rings out. I think three people were shot. One person has to go to the hospital. Looks like everybody's going to be okay, but people started running frantically hearing the gunshots ring out from the park.
And I just started thinking to myself, what more could the Beech Grove Police Department do, Brian? Because if you've ever been to that event, and I was there, I was there, I made some announcements on the microphone. I love that event, but the whole damn police force is basically on duty at that event. It's a big park, and all but probably a few officers are patrolling that area.
What more could have been done? And I started thinking to myself, the issue here is that these juveniles do not fear any sort of arrest. They don't fear the prosecutor. They don't fear being taken into custody because they know they're going to be let right back out on the streets.

No, that's 100% it. I mean, if nobody fears consequences, they just do whatever the heck they want, especially young, impressionable kids. I mean, I was an idiot at that age, too, you know. But the thing is, is the the main thing that's lacking here is the accountability with the parents. The parents should be accountable. I think all all these juveniles that are out past curfew, it's simple. Lock them up at juvenile hall. Stop just sending them home. They're clearly not going home. Lock them up at juvenile hall and then have them parents make their parents come bail them out with a nice fine. Let's invoke the parents with respect to what happened at Beach Grove. That's obviously above and beyond just curfew violation. But I, you know, I don't know how you do.
