Shesterkin’s Vezina Hopes Rise | New York Rangers News

On September 18th, all right, let's talk about the New York Rangers and their goalie, Igor Shesterkin. Training camp is kicking off, and the team is looking to bounce back after a tough season.

A big part of that bounce back hinges on Shesterkin, who's considered one of the best in the game. Now, this is interesting. A recent ranking of Vezina Trophy contenders, that's the award for the top goalie, only had Shesterkin at number eight. For a guy who's proven he can win that award, finishing eighth feels a little low, especially considering how he played last year. Even though the Rangers as a team didn't have their best showing, Shesterkin put up solid numbers.

He had a 25, 19, and 6 record with a save percentage of 0.912 and a goals against average of 2.50.

He even finished fourth in the voting last season. The main knock, it seems, was just one shutout, which was his lowest in a while. But with the Rangers making some key moves, especially on defense, the expectation is that he'll be even stronger this year. He's only 30 years old, so he's still in his prime. Given his talent and the team's improvements, many believe Shesterkin should be a serious contender for the Vezina again this season. The Rangers are definitely counting on him to lead the charge as they aim for the playoffs. Stay locked in with New York Rangers News Today. AI powered updates. I'm Corey with the story.
