Fearless with Jason Whitlock
October 7, 2026
An 11-second video exposed why Shedeur Sanders isn't long for his backup role in Cleveland or even a job in the NFL. He doesn't know how to serve his fellow man. And Lamar Jackson's contract renegotiation is likely headed for trouble given his most recent injury.

Another one of those super unique shows where you can only get it here. I'm going to unpack how Shedeur got exposed and how Lamar is facing exposure this season and maybe during the off season. Let me explain that about Lamar. But let's start with Shedeur Sanders. Shedeur Sanders doesn't know how to lead because he never learned how to follow. He never learned to serve his teammates. He never learned to serve his fellow man. And that missing piece is going to shorten his NFL career because no one in this league wants a backup quarterback who doesn't know how to serve.
A video hit social media yesterday, 11 seconds long. Shedeur on the Cleveland sideline last Thursday night. Nonchalant during a critical play that led to Cleveland's 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. His teammates broke out in celebration. We had fun. This is amazing.
Shedeur stood there like a man waiting for a bus. Disappointed, unimpressed, detached from the only party going on in Cleveland.
Eleven seconds is the whole scouting report on Shedeur Sanders. He doesn't know how to be a backup quarterback. Trust me, there is a skill to being a backup quarterback. And Shedeur doesn't have it. He doesn't know how to serve, serve being the key word. He doesn't know how to serve Deshaun Watson or any starting quarterback, whoever lines up in front of him.
Look at what he was refusing to celebrate. Watson that night went 24, 33, 268 yards, drove Cleveland into range for the game winner. Third straight win. The Browns are three and one. The whole team, every 53 man on that roster is now three and one. That hasn't happened in Cleveland and who knows how long.
Shedeur just throwing one pass in two weeks. And the best thing that could happen to his entire career, he doesn't understand it, but it happened on that field in that win and in that moment. But his face wouldn't admit it and that's the distinction. I want to draw a comparison between Shedeur and a guy that I absolutely love, Jameis Winston. These 11 seconds expose the difference between Shedeur and Jameis Winston. Jameis Winston knows how to serve. He has a servant mindset. He has a biblical mindset. Listen to Jameis Winston two years ago when he was the backup quarterback for Deshaun Watson. Play the clip.

The way I was raised, I was taught to love no matter the circumstances, especially for people who do right by you.
I'm grateful that I had a chance to serve Deshaun, but I am very upset with the reaction to a man that has had the world against him for the past four years and he put his body and life on the line for this city. Every single day, regardless of your perception, regardless of what you thought should happen with him, he committed every single day that I've been here to be the best that he can be for this team. And I know I come from the deep south, Birmingham, Alabama, Bessman, Alabama. So I know the standard that hungry fans won't. But the way I was raised, I will never, I will never pull on a man when he's down, but I will be the person to lift him up.
And that, all of us have unique experiences, all of us have circumstances, conditions and facts that we face every single day. And I pride myself in being a man of increase and being a man that wants the best out of everybody. I tell myself every morning what I want for myself, I want for everyone. And I do not want the treatment that Deshaun Watson has received from these passionate fans. I know you love this game.
When I first got here, I knew these were some amazing fans.
But Deshaun was treated badly. And now he has to overcome another obstacle. So I'm going to support him. I'm going to lift him up and I'm going to be there for him. Because I see the way he fights. I see the way that he works. And I know who he is as a person and as an NFL quarterback. And that's all I have to say to address him. I'm sending up my prayers. I already prayed for his leg and I will continue.
