My mom had a little bit of a miracle happen.

SPEAKER_3 (0:35)

I didn't know it, but my car tags had expired. They expired in June under the driving law, all the time. And so I went to get my tags, and they took charge of the penalty of $55.

SPEAKER_4 (0:48)

And I thought, oh, I can't pay that.

SPEAKER_3 (0:50)

And she said, well, if you sign a waiver saying that you didn't drive a car, you are a fed.

SPEAKER_4 (0:57)

And I said, well, I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_3 (1:00)

That might be a lie. And she said, well, nobody's going to know it but you and me.

And so she talked me into it, and I signed it.

SPEAKER_4 (1:08)

So I got out to the car, and the lawyer said, you can't do that.

SPEAKER_3 (1:12)

You can't do that. You're supposed to be a Christian. That's not a good testimony.

SPEAKER_4 (1:17)

You got to go back and pay that.

SPEAKER_3 (1:19)

I said, okay, God, I will do that. So I went back to her, I said, you got to tear that up. I said, my Lord won't let me do that. I've got to pay the penalty.

David (1:28)

So I paid the penalty.

SPEAKER_3 (1:30)

Well, Monday, Marvin went with Julia to help her sign for her house. And that afternoon, he came up, he hollered for me to come out and sign. I went outside, and he handed me a check. And I got in the house and opened it up. It was for $500.

And I was sitting there, I was going to play Big Goal with Chrissy. And I sat there getting ready, and the Lord said, because of your obedience, to do what I told you and to go back and get that straight, this is your reward.

Well, we are continuing in our series, Sharing the Way. And today we're going to talk about conviction of the Spirit, which is what my mom just testified of.

SPEAKER_8 (2:32)

Conviction of the Spirit. Unfortunately, many times, conviction gets a bad rap.

SPEAKER_3 (2:39)

Oh, you know, you don't need to be convicted.

SPEAKER_6 (2:41)

We're supposed to just, you know, there's no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

SPEAKER_2 (2:48)

Yeah, but condemnation and conviction are not the same thing. Condemnation happens.

SPEAKER_8 (2:54)

My dad always said it this way. Condemnation happens after you sinned against God.

SPEAKER_6 (3:01)

And you think you're okay with it.

SPEAKER_8 (3:02)

You got by with something.

SPEAKER_2 (3:06)

Conviction is the Holy Spirit saying, that wasn't right. Conviction, hopefully, shouldn't come just, you know, after, it should come before, saying, don't do that.

Don't do that. Right? Conviction is not a bad thing.

SPEAKER_10 (3:30)

It's learning to hear the voice of the Spirit of God.

SPEAKER_2 (3:36)

Telling you that violates God's law.

That's what was happening. The Spirit of God was speaking to her spirit going, you just transgressed the law of God.

SPEAKER_11 (3:54)

And conviction came, and she said, I can't do that.

SPEAKER_2 (3:58)

What happened is fear of the Lord came.

David (4:01)

You can't do that.

SPEAKER_9 (4:03)

She went in and made it right to honor the Lord, and God honored her back.

SPEAKER_8 (4:09)

He showed her favor, goodness, mercy.

SPEAKER_7 (4:13)

That's the way it works, guys. That's how God works.

SPEAKER_2 (4:17)

So we're talking about conviction of the Spirit by the Spirit. Now, it's got to come by the Holy Spirit. If it's me trying to convict you, it don't come out right.

Now, sometimes the Holy Spirit will speak through someone else, but it's got to be by the Spirit. And what's it for?

It's for the Spirit.

Because God doesn't want anything to interfere with his relationship with you.

SPEAKER_7 (4:50)

That's the whole point.

SPEAKER_6 (4:51)

That's God's whole motive and intent.

SPEAKER_2 (4:54)

He doesn't want anything to interfere. That's why God, He'll meet all your needs. He'll bring peace. He'll do whatever it takes for nothing to be hindering your relationship with him, your intimate relationship with him.

That's why He'll confront your idols.

He'll convict you whatever it takes to have a pure, intimate relationship with you.
