It's happening. Powderfinger are reuniting for what will hopefully be an epic tour. Mike Gambaro has done the digging and has sniffed out a massive story - here's everything you need to know! Love what you hear?

The interesting one is, I mean, it's Powderfinger, obviously, a huge band in Brisbane terminology, also in Australian terminology. If you look at some of the comments, people say, no, I don't care about Powderfinger, who cares about them? Well, people do, actually, it turns out. They're one of our greatest ever bands.

And they've been gone for 16-odd years. And there's genuine talk. And they're one of the bands that potentially I thought would never, ever come back. There's been opportunity. They haven't. And now it seems over the last 24 hours, there's genuine, genuine evidence suggesting that Brisbane's favorite sons may be back. And Mike Gambaro has been, quote-unquote, getting this exclusive until it sends him to the grave over the last 48 hours. And he joins us again this morning. Mike, good morning!

Mike Gambaro (1:04)

Good morning, guys. You know, you're giving away some money today, but soon you're gonna have to give away some Powderfinger tickets, because it's happening. They are getting back together. What? What? They are getting back together. It's happening. When?

Over the last 24 hours, since we last spoke, I had it confirmed that this has come from Live Nation. The billboards all came from Live Nation, with the billboards planning for a reunion announcement.

But then, later in the day, towards the end of the afternoon, there was a massive projection onto the Forex Brewery, which was another cryptic clue.

David Lutteral (1:41)

Yes, talks to that.

Mike Gambaro (1:43)

So basically, the idea is they're trying to crack it over. It's going to continue happening over the next few days. They're hoping fans are going to crack the case there. But I don't think they expected the little old nerd, Mike Gambaro, the career male. They cracked the case about a week before it's even happening. But to what I understand, there is going to be an announcement later in the week where there will be a massive concert announcement. The boys will all be back together for a massive concert here in Brisbane. So just in Brisbane, we're talking every city?

Well, I don't know those details just yet, but I'm also trying to bite my tongue and protect a few details that I definitely don't want to upset Live Nation with.

David Lutteral (2:24)

Yeah, sources, etc. So is there a suggestion that Forex are involved?

Mike Gambaro (2:30)

Well, I can't say anything. Yeah, I mean, the fact that it's on the Forex brewery, you'd hope so, because when you think of the most iconic Queensland band, you think Powderfinger, and when you think of the most iconic Queensland drink, you think Forex. So it's perfect synergy. So it better happen. I'd love to see the boys smash a gold on stage.

Susie O'Neill (2:53)

Are they thinking this year or next year? When do you think it's going to be?

Mike Gambaro (2:56)

I'm hearing next year. I'm hearing next year, but at the end of the day, it's happening. We're all here. We've spent the last 24 hours speculating everything, and we've got a confirmation.

So it should be seeing tour dates, show dates, whatever the actual whole thing is going to be. It is going to be a reunion concert, and it will be announced towards the end of the week.

David Lutteral (3:19)

The fact that Live Nation are behind the billboards, and I think of what Live Nation do these days, and they do a whole bunch of stuff from... No, they build stadiums these days, Live Nation, they do everything, but what they do is live performance and live events. So for me, that takes it out of the realm of an album. Yeah, or a Netflix special or something like that. I just don't think Live Nation would be doing this if that was what it is, which again, puts it back in the live realm.

Susie O'Neill (3:45)

Does it coincide with a date with them, Mike, like next year, is that a significant anniversary of anything?

Mike Gambaro (3:52)

There's no specific anniversary from me doing all the digging. Well, I know there's been plenty of rumors online saying that there'd be an announcement coming for November 13th, which was of course the day they were walking out, which was their final concert in 2010, but then tickets for them to go on sale in April, and then the concert next year in November on the 13th, the same day there. So dates and all that, still yet to find that one out, but all I can say is that a concert is definitely happening and a reunion is definitely happening.

Susie O'Neill (4:25)

Surely Suncorp, you have to think, it would cater to the masses.
