Samsung introduces its new foldable display technology. More on that coming up, but first. Back in January, Withings showed off the BodyScan 2, an updated version of its ultra premium scale. Now, the company has received the necessary regulatory approvals and can put it on sale in the US. As of today, you'll be able to order BodyScan 2 from Withings website, priced at the, we did warn you it was ultra premium price of $600.
The company says the scale will offer data of comparable quality to a clinical grade DEXA scan. And by that comparison, it's not pricey, it's cheap. BodyScan 2 promises to offer a level of scanning never before seen in an at home bathroom scale. The number of biomarkers it can analyze has gone from 40 on the first model to 60 here, including impedance cardiography, ICG, which monitors your heart's capacity to pump blood to the organs. Second, bioimpedance spectroscopy, BIS, uses a low-level electrical current to check your body's total water, letting the scale keep an eye on your cellular age, active cell mass, and metabolic efficiency. BodyScan 2 is available to order today with a free one-month trial of Withings Plus, the company's premium health monitoring service.
And third-party app stores are coming to Android phones in the US soon. Google has launched a dedicated page for its Play Catalog Access Program, announcing that third-party US Android app stores will be able to access the Play Store's catalog of apps starting on July 22nd. It has also notified developers that the app and game listings they submitted to Google will be made available to external Android app stores, which will be able to offer their products to users. App downloads through the third-party stores will still be completed through Google Play.
The company's service fees will also apply to apps downloaded through the external stores. Google said in its announcements that it's implementing the change to comply with a court order, which came from its lengthy legal battle against Epic Games. In addition to opening up Android to third-party stores, Google also opened the Play Store to outside billing and lowered its commission for app purchases from 30% to 10% as part of its settlement with Epic Games. Samsung has introduced its new flex titanium display technology, which will debut with the next generation of Galaxy foldable devices. It features a new structure that uses material advancements to offer a more durable display with a less noticeable crease. The company says it was built on seven generations of foldable innovation and engineering expertise, suggesting it will launch with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 Samsung is expected to unveil the new foldables at its upcoming Unpacked event on July 22nd. The company developed two components for the new display technology. One of them is a titanium alloy film that sits beneath the OLED panel, giving the display 20 times greater mechanical stiffness. Underneath that is a titanium plate, which provides stable support when the device is unfolded and retains the flexibility the phone needs to withstand repeated folding. The new titanium plate eliminates air gaps between the module and its adhesive through advanced hole processing technology. Kyung Jin Yoo, EVP for Samsung Display, said the micro pattern holds in the folding section of the titanium plate provide flexibility with robust durability. We only have a few days left before we can see for ourselves whether the next generation of Samsung devices truly have less visible folds. At CES earlier this year, however, we did see Samsung's seamless foldable display exhibit, which showed a device with an invisible crease at the center. It made the Samsung phone with an older display tech showcased beside it look messy by comparison, with a very visible crease. 9to5 Google also spotted a leaked video of what's purported to be Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which shows a very smooth screen that has no visible crease.
