If you're feeling exhausted, puffy, anxious, foggy, gaining weight, or just not like yourself, you're not imagining it. Women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are experiencing massive hormonal shifts, and no one is explaining what's actually happening. I'm Katie Whalen, co-founder of Joy. I built Joy because I lived this. The fatigue, the mood swings, the weight changes, the confusion. Your symptoms are biological, not personal, and AI-generated lab reports won't fix them. Every Joy lab includes a visit with a licensed clinician who specializes in women's hormones and connects every biomarker to how you feel. Energy, metabolism, mood, sleep, skin, weight, everything. Then we personalize real solutions. Hormone therapy, peptide therapy, supplements, and lifestyle protocols. Get started at joyandblogs.com today. This month, new customers get 50% off labs, and you can add our estrogen face cream for just $1 with clinician approval.

Hey, welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace, season five. This is so exciting. We're starting off a brand new year of going through scripture together. I've got Scott here. He's gonna be with us for the Book of Genesis, which is really exciting. Let's off. If you're just getting started with us and you want more information about how to follow along with us as we walk through the entire Bible this year, there's an episode that dropped on December, 2025 You can go back and listen to that episode and get all the details that you need. But for today, we're gonna jump right in because we already started reading. It's January 1st. Our passage for today was Genesis 1-3. But before we get into that, Scott, we want to get to know you just a little bit. So can you tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do at the Daily Grace Co?
Scott (1:53)
Yeah. My name is Scott. I'm married to my wonderful wife, Crystal, who you have recorded a few podcasts.
Shelby (1:58)
Yeah, just a few.
Scott (2:00)
I've got two amazing boys who are 12 and 10, Calvin and Judah. Been at the Daily Grace Co for about three years. I started as a staff writer, which I loved and now I serve as a theological editor. So just making sure everything we write and produce is accurately represented.
Shelby (2:19)
You do a fantastic job of that. It's a joy to work with you and I've learned so much with working with you. I know our listeners are going to love getting to go through Genesis.
Okay, so before we jump into Genesis 1-3, can we talk about Genesis as a whole? Are there any things that we should keep in mind as we're reading and studying this book over the next few weeks?
Scott (2:39)
Yeah, totally. I think one big thing is just Genesis 1-11 is really the setup to the whole, not just Genesis, but the whole Bible. It really just shows where everything went wrong, how sin spreads, but then starting in 12, really 12-50, just the focus really narrows down to Abraham and his family. I'll mention this when we get there, but the promises God makes to Abraham are just so, so important to understanding Genesis and the entire Bible. But I think something just to be paying attention to in Genesis is this idea of offspring. We see that early on in Genesis 3 with this hope of an offspring from Eve who will crush the head of the serpent.
But then, starting with Genesis 12, we start to get a little bit of clarity of who this offspring might be, someone from Abraham's family. And I think what's interesting with Genesis is just to pay attention to how often it seems like God's promises to Abraham are in jeopardy. Or it seems like they're not gonna come through and yet they always do. God is just so faithful to keep his promises even when it seems like they're being threatened. So I think that's an important thread to be looking out for, just the offspring and how often that promise seems to be in jeopardy.
Shelby (3:50)
Yeah, that's super helpful as we get started on this book. All right, so let's begin in Genesis 1 through 3 A lot, and I mean a lot happens in these chapters. So just start us off, Scott, with chapter one.
Scott (4:02)
I feel like I'm gonna be saying that a lot. There's a lot in these chapters and that's always true. But yeah, I mean, there is a ton. Our time is limited, so I'll contain myself. But the first thing that just really, really jumps out to me about these chapters is particularly the second verse of the Bible, where we read that the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths. And the idea that's being communicated there, Shelby, is just this idea of chaos. The earth is in a state of chaos, so it's formless, there's no structure, it's void, there's no life because there's no structure. And yet God starts to get to work, the spirit is there. And so God begins to just create structure and order to this place for life to function. And he just creates barriers, boundaries between these realms to support life. And man, for me, there's just such a beautiful reminder there that within God's boundaries, life can flourish. Like God is a God of order and he structures things, he structures the world to function in a certain way.
