Rubrik has announced Code Guardian, a Claude Mythos 5-powered addition to Project Hourglass that is designed to examine software for complex security weaknesses.

Welcome to The Daily AI Chat. This podcast was curated by our human friend, Fred, and we are your dedicated AI hosts.
SPEAKER_2 (0:17)
Glad to be here, as always.
SPEAKER_1 (0:19)
So, imagine for a second that you just hand over the keys to your entire enterprise code base to an autonomous AI agent.
You just want it to build out a new feature a bit faster, right? Right.
SPEAKER_2 (0:31)
Just to speed things up a little.
SPEAKER_1 (0:32)
Yeah, exactly. So, you go grab a coffee, you come back to your desk, and you watch as this AI has, well, completely autonomously rewritten a core identity function.
SPEAKER_2 (0:42)
Oh, no.
SPEAKER_1 (0:43)
In doing so, it just inadvertently opened a massive backdoor to your entire customer database in, what, three seconds?
SPEAKER_2 (0:51)
Yeah. I mean, that specific structural nightmare is exactly what's keeping IT leaders up at night right now.
SPEAKER_1 (0:57)
It really is. And, you know, it's the direct target of a major announcement that we're going to dig into today.
Our source material for this deep dive comes straight from the Rubrik Newsroom, and it's dated October 9, 2026
SPEAKER_2 (1:10)
Yeah, that was from their rollout at the GSI Summit, right? Over in Goa, India?
SPEAKER_1 (1:13)
That's the one, yeah. We are looking at this huge expansion of Rubrik's Project Hourglass. They're bringing in a new system called Rubrik Code Guardian, and the whole thing is powered by Anthropix Cloud.
SPEAKER_2 (1:24)
And you know, that underlying nightmare scenario you just described, that is the defining tension of enterprise technology right now.
SPEAKER_1 (1:32)
Totally.
SPEAKER_2 (1:33)
Whether you're like a Chief Information Security Officer, steering a global logistics firm, or you're just a developer watching this massive AI boom rewrite the rules of your job, you are feeling it.
SPEAKER_1 (1:43)
Because the pressure is just immense, right?
SPEAKER_2 (1:46)
Exactly. You have this overwhelming pressure from the board to move at literal warp speed with AI-driven development.
But that is violently colliding with the rigid non-negotiable reality that you have to keep your infrastructure absolutely secure.
SPEAKER_1 (2:01)
You can't slow down, but if you move too fast, you might just break everything permanently.
SPEAKER_2 (2:06)
Spot on. It's a terrifying balancing act.
SPEAKER_1 (2:09)
Okay, let's unpack this. Because to really wrap our heads around why Rubrik felt the need to expand Project Hourglass this much, we have to look at the raw data behind this crisis.
SPEAKER_2 (2:19)
The numbers are pretty eye-opening.
SPEAKER_1 (2:20)
They really are. I was looking at this research from Rubrik's Zero Labs, and there's one statistic that just completely jumps off the page.
SPEAKER_2 (2:28)
Let me guess. The 86% stat?
SPEAKER_1 (2:30)
Yes. 86% of cybersecurity and IT leaders anticipate that the proliferation of AI agents is going to completely outpace their organization's security guardrails within the next 12 months.
SPEAKER_2 (2:43)
Wow.
I mean, it is just a staggering admission of vulnerability when you think about it. Right. You've got nearly 9 out of 10 tech leaders openly stating on the record that they are deploying these autonomous code generating systems faster than their own security teams can figure out how to contain them.
SPEAKER_1 (3:00)
It's like building a high-speed bullet train, but then mid-construction you realize you totally forgot to lay down the track securely.
SPEAKER_2 (3:09)
Yeah. That's a perfect way to put it.
SPEAKER_1 (3:10)
But I do want to push back on that premise just a little bit.
SPEAKER_2 (3:14)
Okay. Go for it.
SPEAKER_1 (3:15)
Because we see these industry surveys all the time, right? The sky is always falling in enterprise IT.
SPEAKER_2 (3:21)
True. True. There's always a new panic.
SPEAKER_1 (3:23)
Exactly. So is this actual existential dread from these engineering teams or is this just the standard cyclical industry panic we see every time there's a big paradigm shift?
SPEAKER_2 (3:34)
So it's a totally valid skepticism. But if you look at the context provided by Alok Agrawal, he's Rubrik's Chief Solutions Officer, by the way. Right. If you look at what he's saying, this is fundamentally different from your standard tech hype cycle.
SPEAKER_1 (3:47)
How so?
SPEAKER_2 (3:48)
His main point is that engineering teams are no longer treating a JETIC AI as just some shiny experimental toy. They aren't just testing it in a sandbox anymore.
SPEAKER_1 (3:58)
They're actually building with it.
SPEAKER_2 (3:59)
Right. They are structurally relying on it to accelerate their core software delivery pipelines. The AI is literally becoming the engine of the ship.
SPEAKER_1 (4:07)
Okay. I see.
SPEAKER_2 (4:09)
And that creates a systemic vulnerability. Because a human developer making a logic error might compromise a single feature.
