Roy Cooper and Noam Scheiber: We Gotta Rein Trump In

Hey, everybody, we got a double header for you today. We're in North Carolina on Sunday, but wasn't able to get Roy Cooper out there, so wanted to have a chance to chat with him. Crazy what's happening in his race. North Carolina Democrat hasn't won in 20 years, and nobody even talks about this Senate race because he is so far ahead in the polls. So we talked a little bit about why he's doing that, and some little modest concerns they have about the polling. So we'll get to that with Roy Cooper. We also have Noam Scheiber, who wrote a book earlier this year. I've been wanting to get him on, talk about what I think is pretty much the most important trend that explains the rise of DSA, left economic populism and simultaneously, kind of MAGA's hold on the right. Because I don't recognize this American accent. It's just like, you just haven't watched enough pageants. Like she does it, this is a traditional American blonde accent. Sorry, blondes. We love you. I love blondes. Husband's a blonde. But traditional American blonde accent just turned up to 11 And it was a disastrous performance for her yesterday. So we'll have that on the next level. And tomorrow's show, we'll give you a lot of candy with some highlights from it as well. I have one news item and then another serious thing I want to talk about before we get to the interviews. I asked Roy, we pre-taped Roy on Tuesday afternoon. And we do a lot of foreign policy talks about the Russia-Ukraine situation. Since that interview, we have additional news about the total rat-fuckery that Elon Musk is engaged in right now, helping Putin and hurting Ukraine as it tries to defend itself from this horrific invasion, as its biggest city descends into darkness, as we see images of mother and child buried beneath the rubble.

What is Elon Musk doing?

He is creating Starlink restrictions to hamper Ukraine while Russia is doing this escalation.

Troops are being blindsided, drone missions have been disrupted, and the Polish leader is attacking Musk over this.

I discussed with Roy, it seems like there's some threats being made also by Trump to Ukraine about not sharing intel, etc.

Sorry, this is Russia, Russia, Russia. It was real from the start. A Russian oligarch was paying for Don Jr.'s wedding, and now you have Elon spending 300-plus million on the midterms, trying to help Trump, and they're simultaneously helping Russia in their war effort, and they see that as being politically beneficial because they've somehow convinced themselves that the diesel price is the fault of Ukraine, and Ukraine's effort to defend themselves. And we discussed this with Susan Rice yesterday, the degree to which that is stupidity or sinister, kind of doesn't matter, it's probably both. You know, there's probably some element of them liking being able to help Putin, and being on Putin's side, and there's also, I think, a stupid general belief that this is what is causing high diesel prices rather than the stupid war of choice in Iran. It is just completely unconscionable what Elon's up to. And I'm going to have much more on this on tomorrow's show, but just wanted to mention it since I was at development, since the interview with Roy Cooper. I also want to talk about Maryam Tahmasebi, her husband, ISA, and their son who've been in Dili internment camp now for 187 days because of something that one of their ancestors did.

Nothing, they've done nothing. They're here legally. They have no even alleged immigration issues and we're holding them in a camp, like it's Japanese internment again. I don't know. I've been pretty frustrated by the lack of focus on this even from our friends in the Democratic Party and the lack of outrage about their family, but they're just representative of a lot of people who are wrongly being interned right now and the various camps we have all over the country. So some friends of theirs started a website. It's called Free Profs Family, freeprofsfamily.com, freeprofsfamily.com. If you could do me a solid and send that website to your representatives, your senators, particularly if they're Democrats really, and ask them to engage on this and speak out on it, that would be appreciated. So we'll put the link to that in the shout outs. It is fucking horrific, and it's fundamentally un-American. And if we believe in anything, and if we're going to do anything here when it comes to the fight for liberal democracy, it has to start with fighting for people who are being wrongly imprisoned for no reason, for political purposes, by an authoritarian state, and by Marco Rubio in particular.
