Ladies and gentlemen, hello, welcome to Haman Nature. I am Adam Haman, and I'm very pleased to be joined by a hilarious comedian, a man who entertains people in comedy clubs and porches and backyards across this great country.
He's a self-designated sandwich expert, he hosts the Run Your Mouth Podcast, and he's one half of Part of the Problem. And he's also an all-around great guy. Welcome to the show Robbie THE FIRE Bernstein.
Robbie Bernstein (0:34)
You know, that was a beautiful introduction. I should bring you out on the road so you can introduce me. You really hit all the points there.
I do have to say I'm a little bit out of the sandwich game since I don't eat cheese anymore. I feel that I'm not the same connoisseur that I once was, and that I can't give full and proper guidance to those seeking proper sandwiches. Additionally, and maybe this is a function of being an older man, I used to venture around more looking for perfect sandwiches, and now I'm a little bit more, hey, what the hell's around? I don't want to bother.
Adam Haman (1:09)
Yeah, as a man who's a little bit ahead of you there, entropy-wise, that is how it works. I got a pretty important question. I've been wanting to ask you for the last 25 minutes or so.
Time zones, what the hell are they all about? Who invented them? Apparently, it was to make me look stupid, and were the Jews behind it all?
Robbie Bernstein (1:28)
Go.
I think it's always fair when in doubt to blame the Jews. So I think that that's a fair approach in life. You know, it's a good default, and you'll likely be right. So I'm okay with that. And yeah, I mean, I guess time's a construct that we all agree upon. So let's just agree on one set time and be dumb with it. You know, what the fuck do I care if it's my 3 p.m. is 6 p.m.? Like, it's just a form of communication. I agree with you.
Adam Haman (1:54)
It would solve so many problems. I swear I'm a pretty bright guy, but time zones are my Achilles heel. Like a quarter to a third of my scheduled interviews get screwed up because I can't understand how to do the complex computations to figure out what time it is there.
Robbie Bernstein (2:10)
If there's one person who's not gonna give you a problem for putzing something up, it's me.
Adam Haman (2:15)
Good man, good man.
Um, I want to ask you about a city I'm about to visit in in a week that you know more about than I do, even though I've been there a few times. What's up with New York City these days? What's up with Manhattan?
Robbie Bernstein (2:30)
Yeah, you know, I don't I don't hang out in New York City that much anymore. I live in Connecticut. Every once in a while I go in to do the occasional spot, which is more when my road schedule isn't absolutely insane. I'll make more of an effort to figure out where I can get up during the week. But I mean, I think people try and paint it as unsafe. It's just not every time I show up to the city is the same as it's ever been.
But, you know, I don't know. It's the same thing as being older. I don't really want to take a train into the city to drink in the city. Like, so I just don't go in all that often. But, you know, you'll have a good time. Still New York.
Adam Haman (3:04)
That's real good to hear. I've always enjoyed my in-laws live there, and I've always enjoyed every time I visit. But like ever since COVID, you just hear stories that, I mean, I assume everyone on the East Coast has just given a map with all the zombie fentanyl zones and the places you can't go without being murdered or raped.
Robbie Bernstein (3:24)
New York is the same as it's always been. And here's the thing about New York City. It is legitimately the greatest city on earth. And the problem with New York City, whatever you're looking to do, New York City has the best version of it, like literally the best version of it. The problem is, it's likely expensive and hard to find.
So you can very easily walk around New York City and be like, I don't get it. But whatever specific thing you're into, the best version is probably taking place in Manhattan right now. And then it's a question of if you can afford it and find it.
