Why does God save people?
Have you ever tried to dig into the motives of God and understand, is it just because he's lovers? They're more to the story. We're going to be digging into this question today in Exodus 15, verses 1 through 2, as we get our minds aligned with the truth of God's word for this day, as we study the life of Moses on the Morning Mindset. Welcome, friends. I'm glad you're here. Get out your Bibles. We're about to dig into scripture. But before we do, I want to remind you, here at Morning Mindset Media, we produce a handful of other podcasts. One of those is a marriage podcast called You and Me and Jesus. It's about Christian marriage. It's about your Christian marriage. It's applying the scriptures to very practical situations. You'll hear my wife and I have in conversations about various experiences we've had and what we've learned through the scriptures. So check it out, youandmeandjesus.com.
You'll find that link in the description for today's episode. Okay, friends, let's pray before we dig in to Exodus 15
Our God is our desire to understand why you save us, why you redeem us, why you do the good things you do. We want to understand so that we can rightly respond. We ask it in Jesus' name, Amen.
Okay, friends, Exodus 15, verses 1 and 2 Now, to set up the scene, Israel has just been delivered from slavery in Egypt, and it happened in a very dramatic way. God led them up against the sea, and then he miraculously parted the sea. Israel passed through on dry land, and as the Egyptian armies tried to pursue them, the waters crashed down on them and drowned them, destroying the entire army, it says.
So, here's Israel on the other side of the sea, seeing their enemies before them, floating on the water, so to speak, and Moses is the one who steps to the forefront. It says, then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord, saying, I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously. The horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him. My father's God, and I will exalt him.
So friends, back to our question from the beginning of the episode, why does God save people at all? Well, yes, there is the truth of John 3, 16 and 17, for example, that God so loved the world that he gave his only son. So God is very much motivated by his own love for us. He wants us to receive the benefits of salvation, the forgiveness of sins, a home in heaven with him when we die, the Holy Spirit to live within us, all of those things. But he also wants something else for us. There's reflected here in Exodus 15, 1–2. And that is a new way of thinking, a new mindset. And might I say, it's a mindset of worship. We are redeemed by God. To become worshipers. Now, that may sound a little egocentric, but think this through. God the Almighty is exactly that. He is almighty. He is perfection itself. There's nothing about him saying, worship me. That is egotistical at all. He is the only one worthy of worship. And he knows, here's the best part, that worship is good for us. Because it orients us to him rightly. And we, like Moses and the people, can say, the Lord is my strength. He has become my salvation. He is my God. I will praise him. I will exalt him. You see, when our attitude is one of determined worship, because of our redemption, we are able to declare for others to see, the same Redeemer is available for them.
Lord God, guide us in understanding how our lives, our minds, our hearts, are to be oriented around worship, that we are saved to be worshipers. And it's through that worship that we not only exalt you, but we make others aware of just how great you really are. We ask it in Jesus' name.
