I'm Dave Asprey. That's Dave spelled D-A-I-V-E. And this is your 10-minute weekly upgrade on the biggest stories in biohacking, longevity, and the world of health. Let's go.
Every breakthrough in human performance comes down to one thing, just changing your state. And right now, the science and the technology and the ancient practices are converging faster than you realize. For 50 years, bad policy and stigma blocked scientific researchers from studying some of the most powerful tools for the human brain. And that just changed. This October, the researchers, the clinicians, the guys, pioneers in consciousness, tech, and psychedelics are all going to be under one roof in Austin. And you can be there too with me. For the first time ever, I'm hosting and operating Beyond Wonderland. Two full days where you'll learn the science and the practice of changing your state, and you'll get to talk to the researchers doing it. You'll learn how these tools unlock a version of yourself you didn't know existed. You'll find talks about altered states with or without the psychedelics, a tech hall where you can try the tools yourself, breakout sessions, breathworks, ceremony, integration circles, and more. This field is moving really fast, and the people who are here in Austin on October 13th and 14th with me are going to be years ahead of everyone who finds out about this later. Learn more. So, raw garlic is having a main character moment right now. People are crushing a clove, mixing it with honey, eating it first thing in the morning, and claiming it fixes their cholesterol, their insulin sensitivity, their skin, their brain fog, even parasites, and apparently cures a cold in 24 hours. Garlic doesn't contain allicin until you crush it. That action mixes an enzyme with a sulfur compound and creates the active molecule. If you let it sit about 10 minutes before you cook it, you preserve that activity instead of destroying it with heat. Garlic has real antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. It's powerful medicine when you need it, and none of that is hype. But I'll push back on the brain fog claim specifically because I've tracked this on myself. When I was running EEG on my own brain, garlic consistently dropped my alpha waves. And alpha is your focus and calm frequency. High dose garlic on a regular basis creates cognitive drag for me, not clarity. And I don't think enough people talking about this trend are actually measuring what it's doing to them. On the cholesterol side, Stanford ran a six month head to head with 200 people on raw garlic, powdered garlic, aged extract, and placebo. And nobody's LDL moved. Not one group. So, the blood pressure benefit is real and worth having. The cholesterol claim mostly isn't. And the parasite cleanse and brain fog stuff is the internet doing what the internet does with a real compound. For your next meal, crush the garlic and let it sit 10 minutes before you eat or cook it. That's the whole trick. And if brain fog is your goal, track your own response instead of assuming it's working.
New research on older adults found that running true HEPA filtration for about a month produced measurable improvements in cognitive performance. Not massive, but real. The theory is that fine particulate matter, the stuff you're breathing from traffic, wildfire smoke, whatever is floating around your house, drives neuroinflammation and vascular stress. And cleaning that out of your air gives your brain room to breathe. This should be bigger news than it is. We spend so much energy optimizing supplements and completely ignore the 20,000 breaths we take every single day. You cannot supplement your way out of a toxic environment. The World Health Organization just added air pollution as a modifiable dementia risk factor. And that's a big, quiet admission from an institution that doesn't move fast. Tesla's bioweapon defense mode, sealing your cabin and running HEPA-grade filtration in traffic, is an underrated biohack that most people bought for the marketing and never think about again. If you're hearing this and you haven't already, put a real HEPA unit in your bedroom, run it while you sleep, and if you've got a PM25 monitor, use it. And see if you could add one to your car. You'll be shocked how bad your indoor area is on a normal day.
There's a new study on phosphopeptides isolated from egg yolk, specifically from a protein called phosvitin that protected neurons from oxidative stress in a lab setting. Cells treated with these peptides had lower reactive oxygen species, better antioxidant markers, and higher survival when exposed to stressors that normally damage neurons. I love this one because it's another example of the yolk being where the biology lives. Stop throwing away yolks and reaching for egg white omelets. This is early lab work, so I'm not telling you to microdose egg peptides tomorrow. But the direction fits exactly what you'd expect from one of the most nutrient-dense foods available to us. Phospholipids, choline, fat-soluble vitamins, and now, apparently, protective peptides too. This is the kind of research that eventually turns into a supplement, and I'll be watching for the human trials.
