Ravi's Roar (Big Bright Feelings)

Okay, our friends. So today, we are reading a story.

**Lisa Bueno** (0:07)
We're kind of going through a series of books by a man named Tom Parseval, and he has written a lot of great books about feelings. And since feelings are such an important thing, it's important we discuss them. What do you say?
Me too. So I have a question for you before we begin today's story.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:30)
Do you control your temper or does your temper control you?

**Philip** (0:36)
It's a good question.

**Lisa Bueno** (0:37)
When you get the big feeling to be angry or mean or to yell or to kick or to bite or whatever big feeling you have, do you know how to say, I'm not going to do that?

**SPEAKER_5** (0:48)
Can you control yourself? It's worth thinking about.

**Lisa Bueno** (0:54)
Today's story has just that problem in it. Today's story is called Ravi's Roar, and it was Ravi, R-A-V-I, and it was written by Tom Percival.
Today's story is read by Mommy, and are you a goblins?

**Philip** (1:15)
Oh, friends, we've got a boss bokoblin today, not just a little one, a big one.

**Lisa Bueno** (1:22)
Now, you better mind your peace and cues, or I might unleash Ravi on you.

**Philip** (1:29)
You ready?

**SPEAKER_5** (1:31)
Okay. Ravi was the youngest and the smallest in his family.

**Philip** (1:37)
Everyone was bigger than him. And we can see that he's got Kiran, Jaya, Anil, and then comes Ravi. And their dad is measuring them just to make sure.

**Lisa Bueno** (1:52)
Even Biscuits, the dog, is bigger than Ravi. Most of the time, being the smallest was great, but sometimes, just sometimes, it wasn't.

**SPEAKER_5** (2:11)
One day, Ravi and his family went on a picnic.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:15)
There was a race to the train, and guess who came in last?

**Philip** (2:22)
Ravi.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:24)
Everyone else got a comfy seat, but Ravi had to squeeze in with Dad and Biscuits.

**Philip** (2:33)
Then Biscuits made a bad smell.

**Lisa Bueno** (2:40)
Dogs, dogs do that sometimes, right?
When everyone got to the park, they played hide and seek. It was meant to be fun, but Ravi couldn't find anyone. And in the pictures, it's really hard to see where his sister and brothers are, right?

**SPEAKER_3** (3:03)
Like you can kind of see him if you look real hard.
But they're tricky, huh? At the playground, the monkey bars were too high. The gaps between the logs were too wide.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:21)
And when Ravi wanted to go on the big slide, the man said, Sorry son, you're too small.

**SPEAKER_6** (3:30)
Ravi got so mad that his face turned red.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:39)
But then dad said, Come on, let's get ice cream.

**Philip** (3:45)
Oh, dad knew how to calm him down, huh?

**Lisa Bueno** (3:48)
Well, everybody ran off and guess who came in last?

**Lisa Bueno** (3:56)
Yeah, Ravi.

**Lisa Bueno** (3:57)
And then when Ravi went to get his ice cream, there was none left.

**SPEAKER_7** (4:15)
Well, that really did it. Ravi was furious.

**Lisa Bueno** (4:24)
He growled, and a stripy tail popped out from the back of his shorts.

**SPEAKER_6** (4:32)
And then he sprouted two furry ears, sharp pointy teeth, and stripy orange fur.

**SPEAKER_8** (4:42)
He's a tiger. He's a tiger?

**SPEAKER_6** (4:45)
Yeah.

**SPEAKER_7** (4:46)
Ravi had turned into a tiger. The tiger took a huge, deep breath.

**SPEAKER_6** (4:53)
And then...

**Lisa Bueno** (5:03)
Ravi's brother looked a bit nervous and handed the tiger his ice cream. And then the tiger went to sit down and there were no open benches.

**SPEAKER_8** (5:17)
So, he roared and everybody got out of the way.

**SPEAKER_5** (5:26)
Wow, he's terrifying looking, isn't he?

**SPEAKER_7** (5:30)
I know, it was great being a tiger.

**Lisa Bueno** (5:39)
The tiger did all the things that Ravi couldn't. He swung across the monkey bars, he leaped across the logs, he even slid down the big slide because nobody dared to say no.
So the tiger went wild.

**Lisa Bueno** (6:00)
He roared and growled and did exactly what he wanted.

**Lisa Bueno** (6:07)
Roar, he says, but then he soon found that nobody wanted to play with him. In the picture we can see he had run into the field where the kids were playing soccer and snatched their soccer ball and kicked it and then turned around.

**SPEAKER_3** (6:26)
And the kids that were playing soccer are hands on their hips, frowns on their faces.

**SPEAKER_5** (6:34)
Hey, that wasn't very nice, they're thinking.

**Lisa Bueno** (6:37)
And suddenly the tiger felt a bit sad and nowhere near as angry.
