It's September 13th. Welcome in. This is New York Rangers News Today, where team coverage meets AI.

The New York Rangers rookie squad is back on the ice Sunday afternoon in Allentown, Pennsylvania, for the second game of their series against the Philadelphia Flyers. They're looking to even things up after dropping the opener 3-2 on Saturday night.

We might see some wind-up changes, with goalie Danai Shaiikov expected to get the start after Cowentong's solid performance yesterday. Shaiikov, a 19-year-old third-round pick from 2026 is heading back to Quebec for another season in the Qmjhl after training camp. This is a big deal because the Rangers' goal-tending depth isn't exactly overflowing past their top guys. If Shaiikov proves he's got what it takes to be an NHL prospect, that would be a huge boost for the organization down the line.

Defenseman Zeb Lindgren, a fifth-round pick from 2025, is also expected to play after sitting out the first game. He's a native of Sweden and will be playing in North America this season for Red Deer in the WHL.

There were a few other healthy scratches on Saturday, including unsigned camp invitees Dayne Beuker and Michael Suda, along with former draft pick Zakary Karpa, who's now on an AHL contract. It's unclear if any of them will get into Sunday's game. Prospects Artem Gonchar, Aiden Thompson and Andre Mondoux are still not clear to play. Keep an eye on Beuker if he gets in. The Rangers scouting department is apparently impressed with the 18-year-old forward. The putt drops at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday. We'll have all the game coverage and post-game analysis for you. The Rangers rookie power play actually looked pretty good in Saturday's loss, which is a positive takeaway. Adam Sykora, who played 11 games with the Big Club last season, is also participating and is reportedly very motivated to earn a spot on the roster. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the league, the Vegas Golden Knights have signed Captain Mark Stone to an $18 million contract extension through 2029 There's chatter about the Nashville Predators showing interest in Hurricanes defenseman Alexander Nikishin.
