All right, so the New York Rangers rookie camp is officially underway this week, with 26 prospects hitting the ice. They're getting ready for a couple of games against the Philadelphia Flyers prospects this coming weekend down in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This is the first real look we get at some of these younger guys before the main training camp kicks off next week. The big picture here is that the Rangers farm system is looking deeper than it has in a while.

That means they won't have to rely as much on free agents or trades to fill out their roster. You're seeing more players coming up through their own system, which is always the goal for any competitive team. Now, while a few names like Albert Smits, Liam Greentree, Cole Beaudoin and Jacob Battaglia are getting a lot of buzz, keep an eye on Nathan. Aspinall, this dude is 6'7, put up 94 points in the OHL last season and was actually one of the last cuts from the Rangers camp last year. He's got a real shot at snagging a spot. On the defense side, Artem Gonchar is making some serious noise. He's got a great shot, good skating and is already showing he can move the puck well. He's got some work to do on the defensive end, but he's looking like a future powerplay quarterback for the team.

Also, Brody Lamb, who wasn't expected to get a contract, forced his way in after a solid stint in the AHL. He brings that secondary scoring the Rangers need. And don't forget about the two Swedish defensemen, Zeb Lindgren and Felix Farhammar, who are now playing in North America. They're definitely players to watch as the season progresses. It's all about building that depth and seeing who steps up.
