It's September 17th. You're listening to New York Rangers News Today, AI-powered coverage of your squad. So the Rangers, man, they had a rough go last season, finishing dead last in the Eastern Conference.

General Manager Chris Drury, he admits they just didn't have the depth to handle injuries to key players like Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin. When those guys were out, the team really struggled, and their record showed it. This offseason, Drury says he's focused on building up that depth.

He brought in some new talent and feels the young guys are developing, which should make the team much stronger and more resilient throughout the upcoming year. The idea is to have guys ready to step up when needed, so they don't fall apart like they did before. Coach Gerard Gallant, he's expecting a big turnaround too. He knows every team aims for the Stanley Cup, but his immediate goal is simple, compete. He wants the team to be in the mix every single night, fighting hard and giving themselves a real shot at making the playoffs. They finish with 34 wins and 39 losses, with nine overtime losses, which is not the kind of hockey anyone wants to see.

But with the changes made and hopefully better luck with injuries, the feeling is that this year will be different. The focus is on building a more competitive roster that can withstand the ups and downs of a long season. It's all about having that solid foundation so they can consistently put themselves in a position to win games and contend.
