Today is October 7th. From the locker room to your ears, this is New York Rangers. News Today powered by AI. I'm Corey with the story. All right, big news coming out of college hockey this past weekend. The Rangers prospects kicked off their NCAA seasons and we've got some exciting early results.

Forward Malcolm Spence and defenseman Ben MacBeath were the only two to hit the ice in non-conference games that count in the standings. Malcolm Spence got off to a solid start at Michigan, scoring a goal in their big 7-2 win over Bowling Green. He finished with three shots and a plus one rating, which is quite a nice contribution. It's always good to see a player like Spence making an impact early on, especially after scoring a crucial goal during last year's Big Ten Championship. Now on to Ben MacBeath, who made his debut with top-rank Denver against Alaska Anchorage. They took that game 6-2, and MacBeath did well with a plus two rating and one shot. He followed it up by getting an assist and a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

Freshman contributions like that can really boost team confidence for sure. Meanwhile, a few other Rangers prospects saw action in exhibition contests. EJ Emery from North Dakota posted some solid defensive numbers with two blocked shots in their 4-1 win. Even without a point, he's getting notice for his defensive instincts. That kind of play is essential in these early stages. So, definitely some bright spots for the Rangers' future stars as the college hockey season gets rolling.

It will be interesting to see how these guys develop as the season heats up.
