It's September 29th. Alright, so big news from the Rangers today. They've officially named Remington Keopple their designated emergency backup goaltender for the upcoming season. This follows a mystery that started back in July during their development camp. Keopple wasn't a draft pick or under contract, so it had folks wondering why he was there. Turns out, the Rangers were scouting him for this specific role under the NHL's updated contract rules. That's a big one for sure. Before Cornell, he played for the Des Moines Buccaneers and even had a moment on the international stage at the World Junior Championship. His numbers from college look solid, with a 0.913 save percentage and a 196 goals against average. So, he's got some skills to back it up. While it's clear the Rangers hope they won't meet him, weird things can happen in hockey. Remember David Aries? So Keopple's here just in case the worst goes down with the starters, Igor Shesterkin and Joonas Korpisalo.

Gotta have that safety net, right?

And if Keopple steps on to the ice, he'll be rocking the legendary No. jersey, which hasn't been seen in New York for decades. It's cool to think about the history there, even if we hope he never has to use it in an actual game. I'm Corey with the story, and you've been listening to New York Rangers News Today.
