It's October 10th. Alright, so the Rangers just got hit with some rough news. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin is out for the season due to a serious lower body injury. That's a tough break for a team that was really finding its groove.

Then there's Joonas Korpisalo, also sidelined for another four weeks, and Joe Veleno is going to be out for three months. It's like a domino effect of injuries, and the timing couldn't be worse for the Rangers. Now, the Rangers can get full salary cap relief for Shesterkin's near $12 million hit if he's out for the entire season. This opens some doors in terms of trading, but it's still a tricky situation. A name popping up is Connor Hellebuyck. The Rangers might have the cap space now, but they need to sweeten the deal for Winnipeg and get Hellebuyck's approval too. That could tie up a lot of cash and goaltenders if they go that route. So now, GM Chris Drury might have to pivot and explore other short-term goaltending options. If they want to stay competitive without breaking the bank, this is going to be a crucial time for the Rangers to strategize.
