It's October 8th. Okay, big news from the New York Rangers. They've started strong, winning 4 of their first 5 games, including a solid 5-2 victory over the Islanders.

That 2-day break is well deserved after they shut down their rivals with impressive forechecking. It's nice to see them finding that rhythm early on. Then there's coach Mike Sullivan emphasizing how crucial that forecheck is to their game. He mentioned that it allows the team to control territory and momentum.

When you're dictating the play like that, it puts serious pressure on the opponents. Sounds great, right? Sullivan also gave a nod to Alex Ovechkin ahead of the Rangers matchup with the Capitals. With Ovechkin announcing this will be his last season, it's a moment to appreciate his impact on the league. After scoring 46 career goals against the Rangers, it's clear he's been a force to reckon with over the years. On the powerplay side, the Rangers are still looking for that consistency. So far, they're sitting at just 21.4 percent success.

Sullivan's keeping his cool though, saying it's a work in progress. They've scored some important goals, but it's not quite where they want to be yet. Lastly, there's some buzz about potentially snagging Connor Zary from the flames.

Friedman suggested the Rangers might have shown interest, but his cap hit is a big hurdle. Still, if they could make it work, he'd be a solid addition to their depth. So, yeah, it's been an exciting start for the Rangers, and it'll be interesting to see how they keep rolling in the coming games. That's the story for today.
