It's October 10th. Yo, I'm Corey with the story, and this is New York Rangers News Today, your AI-powered team report. Alright, so big news hitting the New York Rangers today. Igor Shesterkin is out for the season, and that's a serious blow for the team. Right away, folks started talking about Connor Hellebuyck as a replacement, but he's not the answer the Rangers need right now. They're looking for someone to step in this season, and St. Louis Blues goalie, Jordan Binnington, fits the bill.
Binnington's a proven winner, and could hold it down without a long-term commitment.
That's crucial since Shesterkin is locked in for the long haul. One of the best parts about Binnington is that he'll be a free agent next summer. This means no strings attached. If the Rangers want him for just one season, it makes a lot of sense, especially with Junas Corpusalos still around for another year. Plus, Binnington would elevate his value by playing in the spotlight. Speaking of value, Binnington's cap hit is $6 million.
The Rangers are tight on space right now, but can adjust by putting Shesterkin on season-ending LTIR. They'll get some relief, but will still need to make more moves to fit Binnington under the cap. So, it's clear Binnington could be the key to solving the Rangers' goalie issue this season. A little creativity in the management could turn things around for them as they navigate this challenge.
