It's October 7th.

Okay, big one today from the NHL. The Rangers opened up their season with a solid 5-2 win over the Islanders. This game was kind of wild, especially with Alex Lafreniere scoring a rare hat trick with two of those coming from empty net situations.

The Rangers got off to a quick start, netting a goal early in each of the first two periods. The Isles fought back hard, tying it up at 2-2 with two goals in just two minutes. That shows they can compete for sure. But it was Oliver Bjorkstrand's late power play goal in the second that turned the tide. The Rangers totally shut down the Isles in the third, holding them to only five shots. That's some serious defensive work. On the injury front, Simon Holmstrom had a scary moment when he took a puck to the face, but returned after some time off the ice. On the flip side, Alex Romanoff wasn't able to come back, which adds to their concerns moving forward. Looking ahead, the Islanders will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting the Blackhawks. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this one.
