It's September 17th, this is New York Rangers News Today, powered by AI, your team, your update. All right, let's talk about the Rangers Training Camp. This year, it's all about who's ready to step up.

We've got a few rookies looking to make a name for themselves, and two in particular are getting a lot of buzz, goalie Dylan Garand and defenseman, Alberts Smits. Garand's already shown flashes of brilliance, and Smits, well, he's got international experience got people talking.

The backup goalie spot is wide open after Jonathan Quick retired. Garand is going head to head with veteran Joonas Korpisalo, who was brought in to stir the pot. Coach Sullivan says, Garen proved he can make saves in this league, and Korpisalo is a proven NHL goalie. They're aiming for some serious competition at that position. For Smits, an 18-year-old, the hype is real. He's got a shot at making the opening night roster, but the team is also focused on his long-term development. President Chris Drury mentioned they won what's best for him, so we'll see how it all shakes out once camp gets rolling.

Meanwhile, Pavel Dorofeyev is being looked at for both wings, with the coach planning to experiment to find the best fit. Some guys are dealing with injuries, with Cole Beaudoin day-to-day and Aiden Thompson week-to-week. And on the business side, a new CBA just kicked in, shortening contract lengths. We're seeing teams lock up young talent with these new terms, but the Rangers GM is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding any potential. Long-term deals for their own prospects.
