It's September 18th. This is New York Rangers News Today, powered by AI. Your team, your update. The New York Rangers are officially in training camp with 48 players, and 17 of them are new faces. This year's camp kicked off on September 16th, with the first on-ice session happening the next day. The NHL has shortened the preseason to just 4 games because they're expanding the regular season to 84 games. This means teams have about a week less to get ready for their opening night matchups.

Head Coach Mike Sullivan mentioned that because of this tighter schedule, the team's approach to training camp will be more intense from the jump. They're looking to install team concepts right away, starting on September 17th, while still giving players a chance to show what they've got, and preparing everyone for that first official game. Despite the accelerated timeline, the Rangers had a productive offseason. General Manager Chris Drury brought in some new talent, including Ily Tolvanen, Pavel Dorofyev, and Oliver Bjorkstrand. On a positive note, all the players seem to be healthy heading into camp, which is always a good sign for any team looking to make a run. Sullivan's strategy for this camp is all about focus. He explained that the time crunch forces everyone, from the coaching staff to the players, to prioritize the most crucial elements of their game plan.

They're working together to make sure they're getting the most out of every single day, given the limited time they have to prepare for the upcoming season. The Rangers are coming off two seasons without making the Stanley Cup playoffs, so there's definitely a lot to prove.

They'll be looking to shake off their recent history and make a strong statement early on, starting with their first preseason game against the New Jersey Devils on September 21st.
