Today is October 19th. All right, big news for the Rangers today. They just signed veteran center Luke Glendening to a professional tryout offer. This comes after they lost Joe Veleno to a lower body injury for about 3 months. Glendening's got a solid track record, spending his first 8 seasons with the Red Wings. He racked up about 554 games with them, and even hit a career high 12 goals back in the 2014-2015 season. That's a nice bit of experience to bring in.
He didn't have a contract this fall, after attending training camp with the Tampa Bay Lightning as a PTO. They let him go before the season started, so you know he's looking to prove himself again. It's definitely a chance for him to show he still belongs in the NHL.
And this isn't the first former Red Wing the Rangers have brought in recently. Just a few days ago, goalie James Reimer also signed a PTO with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate. Clearly they're looking to tap into that Detroit connection. So, it'll be interesting to see how Glendening fits in with the Rangers. He's got the skills and the experience, and it could be a good move for Deft as they push through the season.
