On September 15th, so, Alberts Šmits is looking to make the New York Rangers opening night roster. It's a tough road ahead, but he's got a shot. The team's been bringing back some former players, and there's talk about how this might help build a stronger culture. Something that's felt a bit absent lately. Adding veteran presence is key, and they brought in guys like Jonathan Quick. Quick's a two-time Stanley Cup champ, a Hall of Famer for sure.

He was a unique goalie, not your typical style, kind of like Tim Thomas or Dominik Hasek. Unorthodox, but incredibly effective. The concern might be if Quick is getting into the nitty-gritty of goal-tending coaching, but the feeling is he's more in an oversight role. These moves by Chris Drury are a bit of a departure from his usual approach, but they seem to make sense. This strategy of bringing back experienced players is definitely a talking point. It's about infusing that winning mentality and knowledge into the current squad.

The hope is that this veteran influence will rub off on the younger guys and help shape the team's identity. It's an interesting strategy the Rangers are employing.

Time will tell if these veteran additions, including the unconventional but successful Jonathan Quick, will truly bolster the team's culture and on-ice performance as training camp progresses. New York Rangers News Today, powered by AI bringing you what matters on the field and beyond.
