[PREVIEW] Episode 581: Horsch House of Horrors

Matt (0:00)

And I guess like the deeper implications of parts of his story as well, even that is really hard to kind of tease out because a lot of these claims are generated by him. So it also gets to that question well as well of, you know, what is real and what is fake about all of this. It's a bit of a head fuck, is this case.

Liz Franczak (0:24)

Yeah, you have to like untangle a bunch of these sort of like semi-documented connections and unresolved allegations. And then it's this elaborate mythology that Horsch, you know, built around himself. There was a great quote from one of the Detectives, Frank Venore, another name. There's a lot of great names in this, by the way. And I will say, I do think that's because of Philly.

That is, yeah, shout out Philly, great name.

But this is what the W said. He said, he was making movies. Some of this is play acting. Some of it, we believe could be real, but we're not there yet. And, you know, there's all this reporting coming out about how the cops are trying to figure out what's real and what's fake and having a real hard time. And we're going to get into that and more. But let's first, let's just start with the rest, because I think that'll kind of like set the stage here. And then we're going to go in a little bit back in time and talk about our man, RC. So back on June 19th, federal park ranger approached Eugene Horsch and his improperly parked BMW near Independence Mall. John Chomsky knows where that is.

Matt (1:41)

I do.

Liz Franczak (1:42)

Thank you. Actually, I do too. I know where that is. This is not far from where I live. Oh, yeah. Relatively speaking. Relatively. I mean, compared to Matt.

So in the car, they found loaded guns, crack cocaine, a cattle prod, handcuffs, and fake FBI and DEA credentials. There was a woman in the car with him. She hands over her ID, but it's not her. She has an ID that says the name Blair Tonzelli, which is a woman who's been missing.

Now, this kind of sets off the whole thing because she says that Eugene had kind of like made a bunch of fake IDs with this name, and she mentions that she thinks something bad may have happened to the real Blair. So that leads to a search of the house.

Matt (2:42)

Just as an aside, right? This is neither here nor there. But at some point, I'm going to get around to figuring out how many of these guys have been caught because of some kind of traffic violation. Have you noticed that?

Liz Franczak (2:55)

I know.

Matt (2:56)

They always get caught because like they're not, they're parked in a handicapped spot or they've got a busted taillight or something.

Liz Franczak (3:02)

Yes, or they ran a red light.

Matt (3:04)

Yeah. And they're always basically carrying like the serial killer's manual with them. And it's very strange.

You would think they would be practiced, you know, by that point. That's how they got like Ted Bundy, isn't it? Yeah. And it's how they got the Yorkshire Ripper as well. They found like a hammer and a knife and shit in his car when they pulled him over.

Liz Franczak (3:27)

People think that their cars are totally just like, it's like being on your person. It's not on your person, but they can search your person too.

Matt (3:35)

Yeah. Yeah. For all the serial killers out there listening.
