Total Soccer Show: USMNT, Champions League, EPL, and more ...

August 3, 2026

Ryan is joined by Graham and Taylor (and Joe, in spirit, we think) to discuss the latest from around the globe, including the welcome news that Mauricio Pochettino has signed on for another 4 years with the USMNT, the ongoing drama with FIFA and Infantino, and the tumultuous summer at Newcastle...
Speakers: Ryan Bailey, Taylor Rockwell, Graham Rutherfurd

Welcome to the Total Soccer Show and The Bulletin, our news roundup show. Today, we celebrate four more years of the Hugo Boss Safari Suit. Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to coach the USMNT through the next World Cup. Elsewhere, is Johnny Infantino on the ropes or in this post-shame world? Will he just continue as FIFA's leader unopposed? All this and so much more on today's Bulletin. My name is Ryan Bailey. Joining me today, Taylor Rockwell is here. Hi, Taylor, how are you?

**Taylor Rockwell** (0:50)
I'm doing well, Ryan Bailey. I love your inshore dance. I love the concept of a post-shame world, except that I hate that concept simultaneously, but I think we're off to a flyer, not least because of that dancing. Nicely done, my friend.

**Ryan Bailey** (1:00)
You know what else we're in, Taylor? We're in a post-Taylor Rockwell's birthday world.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (1:05)
It was yesterday.

**Ryan Bailey** (1:06)
Happy birthday, Taylor.

**Taylor Rockwell** (1:07)
Thank you.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (1:07)
Thank you.

**Taylor Rockwell** (1:09)
It was a lovely day spent with the family, and my birthday gift, my wife asked me what I wanted, and my answer was to build a tree house. So I got all Saturday cleared of children to build one third of a tree house. It's a slow process that required multiple steps and multiple trips to the hardware store, as does every project I do.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (1:30)
Your wish wasn't a new contract for Mauricio Pochettino?

**Ryan Bailey** (1:32)
Because if it was, all right, okay.

**Taylor Rockwell** (1:35)
She got to work. She got to work over the weekend after I said that was the other thing I would really enjoy.
And her contract's expertise really came to the fore.

**Ryan Bailey** (1:44)
So tree house is just for you, no girls allowed sign on the front. What are we talking here?

**Graham Rutherfurd** (1:49)
Stepbrothers style.

**Taylor Rockwell** (1:50)
No homers as well, yes. That's the rule.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (1:52)
You're allowed one. No homers club in the tree house.

**Ryan Bailey** (1:55)
Very good. Graham Rothern, how are you? How's your tree house recent history? Been in one lately?

**Graham Rutherfurd** (2:00)
No, but I love tree houses. Like who doesn't like tree houses? I kind of want one and there are some big trees at the back of my house. So maybe I should get on that. Maybe that should have been my birthday wish, my last birthday. That was a mistake by me.

**Taylor Rockwell** (2:15)
How many TV screens would you immediately wire into your soccer tree house, Graham?

**Graham Rutherfurd** (2:20)
Yeah, I could get a few in there. I'm envisaging a Barts Casino style tree house for the local neighborhoods. That would be my dream.

**Ryan Bailey** (2:30)
Have Robert Goulet come and play for you in the tree house. Very good. Excellent stuff.

**Taylor Rockwell** (2:35)
Can I tell you the nerdiest thing that you're both going to stare at me blankly about? It's designed to look like a Klingon bird of prey, my tree house.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (2:44)
That's what we're going for here.

**Taylor Rockwell** (2:45)
And the silent faces of confusion are exactly what I expected. Thank you for that. But at least maybe one person listening to this was enthusiastic about that. A lot of other ones were not and do not care. Let's talk about Poch, shall we?

**Ryan Bailey** (2:58)
Yeah, let's talk about Pochettino and stop people from switching off the podcast. No disrespect to your tree house, Taylor. It sounds lovely. Before we get to the main event of this show, patreon.com/totalsoccershow is the best way to support us. You'll get bonus episodes, bonus video, and access to our Discord. What's been happening on the Patreon lately?
I went to a soccer game in London this weekend, did a video. I saw that. Yeah? You like that?

**Graham Rutherfurd** (3:22)
I liked the shirt you bought, the kind of off-white Wimbledon shirt. I think that's the best of the bunch this season.

**Ryan Bailey** (3:28)
I was pleased with that and I was reminded, Graham, of the futility of friendly games.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (3:34)
Yes.

**Ryan Bailey** (3:35)
Yes.

**Graham Rutherfurd** (3:36)
But certainly club-friendly games.

**Ryan Bailey** (3:38)
They're the worst kind. It was a training exercise, but it was a fun day. I'm glad I went. I don't get to go very often to see my team. Also, coming later on the Patreon. In fact, maybe now, as you listen to this, we're going to talk about Gia Reyna. Another club?
Which one is it?
Let's go find out on there, shall we? patreon.com/totalsoccershow. All right. Let's get to the big story of The Bulletin. Mauricio Pochettino agreeing a deal to stay as US coach through the 2030 World Cup. Taylor, your instant reaction to this. Mine is one of surprise. I wasn't expecting it, but here we are, four more years.
