Pizza Joint Turns Away National Guard Troops

Dylan, I am just stunned, just stunned. We're getting ready for the show.
We're knee-deep in show prep. Of course, we've got the hearings for Todd Blanche underway. A lot of stuff happening up on Capitol Hill today. And all of a sudden, there's a banging at the front door of our palatial broadcast bunker here in Memphis, Tennessee. And the UPS guy has this massive box that was sent to him. We had no idea who it was from. And so we had Ian the intern open it up as we stood at a safe distance.

Yeah, we actually left the building. He opened it in a secure room.

**Todd Starnes** (1:10)
We got to do, you know, it's just like the president, you know, the VP never flies on the same plane as the president.

**Dylan** (1:16)
It's just like an intern stuff, really.

**Todd Starnes** (1:17)
It is. It is.
So anyway, Ian opens the massive box. And our good buddy, Lee Greenwood, sent me a customized guitar, like a handmade customized guitar. It has my, it's emblazoned with my name and it's got a beautiful American flag. Unbelievable.

**Dylan** (1:40)
It's really snazzy.

**Todd Starnes** (1:42)
It's pretty snazzy. So apparently it's not just Lee Greenwood, but Darryl Worley, Neil McCoy and Don McLean, all pitched in and got me this custom made guitar. And I'm just so thankful. All that to say, anytime these guys want to come on the show, they're going to the top of the list.

I think that also means you have to learn like a little tune for them, just to something to say thank you.

**Todd Starnes** (2:07)
You see, I'm not musically inclined like that.

**Dylan** (2:10)
Yeah, but you come from a family of music.

I do, I mean, you play and Ian was actually playing some music down there that sounded really good.

Yeah, Ian almost stole it.

Serenading us.

He almost took it with him.

Yeah, can't do that.

And we greatly appreciate it. Hey, welcome to the Todd Starnes Radio Show. What an honor to have you with us. You know, it was funny. I was doing an interview.
Again, this has been a very busy day. And Dylan, it started at the crack of dawn. And I had to do an interview with one of the radio trade magazines, Barrett, the Barrett radio website group. And just a very lovely lady, a reporter, did the interview.
She was great. And she asked me, they were doing a profile piece on me and the radio show. And she actually asked, she brought this up. I just, I had to laugh. She said, you know, she said, you mentioned right out of the gate that you're a color driven radio show. I said, yes, I am. I said, we really consider our show to be a great big front porch. And she said, I don't understand what that means. She goes, I'm from New York City. We don't have front porches. I said, no, but you guys have stoops, right? So I said, just imagine the Italians getting together on the stoop there in Brooklyn. And they're talking about gravy, which is like spaghetti sauce. But here in the South, we all get together on our rocking chairs on our front porch. And we're talking about gravy. And we're talking about sausage gravy for the biscuits.

**Dylan** (4:08)
That's a great analogy, actually.

**Todd Starnes** (4:09)
She said, oh, I get it.

**Dylan** (4:11)
Yeah.

**Todd Starnes** (4:12)
I said, I'm painting a word picture for you. And so anyway, she said, well, I don't know if you're aware, but we published a big story a few days ago talking about how many radio hosts do not take calls anymore. I said, oh, I'm aware. I'm aware.
And I said, look, I said, I get it. That's how some people run their show. But on this program, I said, we love taking calls from our listeners. And I gave her a couple of examples about how, for example, we've had some folks that have been through some health issues and they've called in and people have called in to affirm them and to say they're praying for that person. And I say, really, it's not that our listeners are an extension of the show, they are the show. We are the show.
