Today is September 30th. This is New York Rangers News Today, driven by AI, your team, nonstop. All right, so the New York Rangers are shaking things up big time this season. They're trying hard to break a three-year playoff drought, and general manager Chris Drury is making some bold moves. He's not just focused on fresh talent, he wants players who can help win now. It's a gamble, and the pressure's on him as the losses stack up. On Tuesday night, the Rangers kicked off their season against the Boston Bruins, but took a 3-0 shutout loss. Goalie Igor Shesterkin was battling to keep things close until the final minutes, but the team struggled defensively, allowing too many odd man rushes. That's gotta be frustrating for fans. But let's talk about the bright spot here. Pavel Dorofeyev. Despite the loss, he showed up as a serious offensive threat. He played on the second line with JT. Miller and Oliver Bjorkstrand, and this trio led the team in shot attempts and shots on goal.

With 5 shots on goal, Dorofeyev was clearly making his presence felt, unlike many of his teammates. Acquiring Dorofeyev was a bit of a risk for the Rangers, especially after trading Artemiy Panarin.

They dealt away their future picks to bring him in and signed him to a 7-year, $77 million extension.

That's a hefty commitment for a guy expected to be a top scorer. But right now, he's fitting in nicely with his new linemates. Looking ahead, the Rangers are set to host Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. If Dorofeyev and his line keep it up, we might finally see that first goal for him and some points on the board.

Definitely something to watch for.
