Hello and welcome back to Once Upon A Time, a Matchroom Boxing original audio docu-series focusing on Katie Taylor's final fight at Croke Park in Dublin on September the 5th, live on The Zone. In our fifth and final episode today, we talk to three men who are all very much part of Katie's in-outboxing circle. Manager Brian Peters, trainer Ross Enamait and promoter Eddie Hearn conclude this series. Now, if you saw the launch press conference for September the 5th, there was an emotional moment when Brian Peters almost shed a tear whilst reflecting on the journey. Peters had previously guided the likes of Bernard Dunne, Wayne McCulloch and Matthew Macklin to world title fights. And as we heard in our first episode, was the first name the Taylor family called for managerial services when they turned professional. Under his own promotional banner, Peters promoted shows throughout Ireland during the 90s and 90s, which featured noticeable names including Prince Nazeem, Kiko Martinez, Shane Neary, Jim Rock, Brian McGee, Paul McCloskey, Andy Lee and Tyson Fury to name a few.

Even a young Katie Taylor featured on a Bernard Dunne undercard in an amateur fight on one of Peter's events back in March 2009 It's not too often you get to hear Brian's insight as honest and open as this. So I hope you enjoy.

Well, we're in Dublin today and delighted to be joined by Brian Peters. Brian, I know you don't always do these things, so I appreciate your time.

Brian Peters (2:58)

Yes, first, well, my last appearance was that one up on the stage, which was quite an emotional time. It was an emotional time. Some people thought it was a bit of Hollywood, but no, it was real. It was real.

Scott Hammerton (3:08)

How's your emotions sort of going into this training camp as we count down?

Brian Peters (3:12)

Yeah, it's been, I suppose, hard to say to some of the young people listening to this, but the 10 years just absolutely flew by. So very special, very special to get this over the line. When you're dealing with an athlete like Katie Taylor, you know, she climbed so many Mount Everest, there wasn't too many more to do really. And Crowe Park, you know, probably we were at it for four years and it was an impossibility at one stage. But I suppose that's what made it all the more challenging.

They do say I'm fairly relentless. So look, it was, it was great to get over the line.

Scott Hammerton (3:43)

What made you sort of go back to try and get this over the line? Because like you say, there were challenges multiple times in that four year period where it kind of looked like it was happening at one stage wasn't. What was the drive to finally try and get it done now?
