Mike Malott made a big statement by knocking out Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC Edmonton, sending his home-country crowd happy. With a lot of contenders at the top of the welterweight division, where does "Proper" go after the biggest win of his career?

All right, Mike Heck here from MMA Fighting, and my good friend Jed Mishu is here with me as well, because Jed, the day has finally arrived. It's App Day, the all new SB Nation app. It's live now. It's live, Jed.
Alexander K. Lee (0:12)
It's alive.
Jed Mishu (0:14)
Yeah, man, I'm really excited. And it's awesome, man. Combat sports, like all sports, but combat sports fan especially, you guys are gonna have your voices heard like never before within SB Nation. MMA boxing, not me, but you, pro wrestling, Mike.
It's it is a community based app. It's all about community with the SB Nation app.
Mike Heck (0:34)
It's so easy to use and it can keep, obviously, combat sports fans connected to their favorite teams and all of sports too across the board. So I can keep up with the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Patriots and the Bruins all on my phone. And it's so simple to use.
Jed Mishu (0:48)
Yeah, like you you mentioned those teams, but there's so much more because I don't care about Boston sports, Mike. But I get to follow the NFL, all the other sport, F1, and the various sports that I care about outside of combat sports.
And then there's the live experience because that's to me, that's one of the coolest things. You can chat with us during fight cards every Saturday, and you can chat with other people in the communities as big events are happening. So it's it's a really good time.
Mike Heck (1:15)
So, ladies and gentlemen, come fight with us over on the all new SB Nation app. Download it today. Download it right now. What are you waiting for? Download it.
Well, hello there, everybody. Welcome to a brand new edition of On To The Next One. We are back with the matchmaking crowns following UFC Edmonton. Another trip back to the Great White North, and it won't be a long stretch of time before the UFC returns to the Great White North. They are kicking off the numbered event slash pay-per-view season in 2027 with UFC 336 in Toronto. How about that? So Canada becoming a hotspot once again for the UFC, and this was a very Fight Nighty event. Records were tied for most finishes on a card in the modern era. 12 out of 13 fights were finished, but two fights of note, the main and the co-main event. Big wins for Mike Malott and Jasmine Jasudavicius. So while it didn't start off great for Canada, it ended with a bang for Team Canada. But I am Mike Heck, and joining me, as always, following a UFC event, and it's nice to be reunited with him, if we're being honest. The co-host, the co-matchmaker, the Prince of Positivity, and my bestest friend, the one and only, Alexander K. Lee. AK, how we doing? How we feeling?
Did the, is Canadian MMA back? Are we back and better than ever here?
Alexander K. Lee (2:58)
It was never gone, my best friend. It was never gone. Something cannot be back if it was never gone. Sometimes it's a little sleepy. Sometimes it's a little creeping along in the shadows, not always shining in the brightest light. And we kind of saw both sides of it on Saturday. I mean, it was looking grim there for a while. It was looking grim. Anyone wants to see how we were addressing it live? Just go check out the feed, check out the feeding frenzy. You can see Mike just poking the bear saying, oh, it could be and 12, could be and 12 tonight, multiple times, multiple times. It's like, oh, that's not looking good so far. It was so bad, Mike, that Mackenzie Stiller, who was an American fighter, was replacing a Canadian fighter and still lost. That's how jinx being vaguely associated with Canada was on those prelims, UC Edmonton prelims.
Then Tanner Bozer, the cagey veteran, God bless him, gets that win over to Nazanis and kind of sets the ball, right? And then we get four out of six Canadians winning on the main card, as you mentioned, two in the biggest fights of the night. So that was cool.
Yeah, really, really a mixed bag. But overall, you want to go on a high note, right? You go on to go on a high note, so you get the Malott win, you got the Jasmine Jasudavicius win, you get the UFC Toronto announcement, as you mentioned, Mike. You get the UFC 336, I will be there. Of course, I'll be there. It's a hop, skip, and a jump away from me to go downtown and watch the UFC. And you know who else I hope is there, Mike? I hope we get either Strickland Imovov II or Strickland Shumayev II, because no matter who it is, you'll definitely be getting Strickland versus AK Lee II. All right, I am telling you.
