If I want to stop stepping the fence, the moment I start my front foot forward, I don't get to have my foot go first. You'll notice you're searching for ground as if a sprinter was searching for ground. Like that. We don't want to do that. We want to push. Good. Good shot. Because the moment I go to shift in, if I go foot first, you can feel the power disappear. If I go hip first, you're like off. Pushing the back. Before the hip, shift. Shot. There's wind in me. You just shift the hip without searching for ground. It's really, really hard to pattern that.
See? That was really easy, hey? But you got to be snapping it. The knee will still come. Can we make it more about the hip before we get the knee?
You blame Shay for this? I'm talking to Shay.
Shannon Sharpe (1:04)
Myles Garrett must be don't like his money. Man, you talking to somebody like that, man?
Can you imagine him being the quarterback like that, Ochocinco?
Chad Johnson (1:13)
No, because he wouldn't be able to play. He'd get fined. He'd get fined and he'd get suspended. I like what he's coaching, I like what he's teaching about your foot placement.
Shannon Sharpe (1:23)
Leading with your heels and not your leg?
Chad Johnson (1:26)
Yeah. Exactly. But also, you can't play with that right now anyway. You can't drive yourself through the quarterback. What he's teaching, he can't even do.
I don't think Myles Garrett really needs or has an issue with understanding how to tackle the quarterback, when that's one of the things that he does well.
Shannon Sharpe (1:42)
But most of the guys, they're talking to lead. But like you said, you can't launch. You can't launch anymore. You can't explode through a runner anymore.
Because then you will end up landing on top of him, and then it goes like, well, you can't, other players, you can't do the quarterback like that. Quarterback like that. That's the only player that Myles is going to be able to hit like that, is the quarterback. Hey, but the rugby thing, it teaches you more so what? Of how to, what, tackle, use, leverage, you know what I mean? Yes. So, I mean, for me, bro, I can appreciate a guy like Myles Garrett, who has every physical tool you can possibly have from a football player, and still trying to find different ways to add to his game, to be even better. You know what I mean? I think that's what the great ones do, all can Ocho. You know, they try to find different ways to stay on top, stay ahead of the game, you know, to enhance whatever it is they already have. They're trying to find ways to enhance it even more. You know what I mean? So look, think about it. Those little basic moves Buddy was showing them from rugby, man, they could probably help Myles Garrett get an extra sack or two throughout the season. You know what I mean? It's just a little small minute things, bro, because the man already locked in. You know what I mean? Techniques.
Oh yeah.
What other sports you use Ocho to get ready for football?
Chad Johnson (3:07)
For me, it's soccer. Soccer was always my number one, Joe. I think for any sport in general, that's why I tell a lot of parents, you know, to put your kids in multiple sports when they're young, especially soccer. You got to include soccer, because the most important foundation to play any sport is your footwork. Joe, when your footwork is on point, the rest of the body just follows.
You watch Kyrie Irving, you watch some of these players, your Stephon Marbury, your Derrick Roses, people that are really good with the ball in their hands and create separation and be able to take people one on one. Your Stephon Currys, the basic foundation to what makes them good and not the fact that they can shoot, is the fact that they can create separation with their footwork. Everything starts from the waist down, your lower extremities. So soccer was my base, which is why my route running and ability to run full speed and be able to stop on a dime and get back to top speed in one or two steps. And I just, you know, that soccer just, it did want to.
Shannon Sharpe (4:04)
I agree with Ochocinco. That soccer is great because first of all, footwork, especially if you're a basketball player, soccer, if you start off, I'm talking about as a kid, four or five years old, I get to help you with your footwork throughout the game. That's what NAS started with. That's what NAS started with in Canada. But for me, Ochocinco, I used to do a little boxing training. You know what I mean?
