Chad Johnson (0:00)

Okay, okay, my bad.

Shannon Sharpe (0:02)

The Ravens' cornerback, Marlon Humphrey, has clapped back after my tweet. I suggested that he move to safety. Let's take a listen to what Humph had to say.

Iso Joe Johnson (0:10)

My dog, Shannon, saying I need to move to safety, man. We're to be on the island. He and we're gonna leave a lot to be desired. Anyway, look, here go the thing. Here go the thing. If you look at my first year of ever playing in the NFL, you wanna know what they said?

I need to move to safety. You look at my second year of the NFL, you wanna know what they say? I need to move to safety. That's what they always say. And here goes the thing. It's like, it's not as my...

Is it my problem that I'm a physical corner? Like, is that my problem? It's just like people just see me and they're like, he needs to move to safety. And then obviously probably wearing 44 probably does not help. But look, man, I just do what I do, man. I play where they tell me to play. And we play ball. I respect, you know what I'm saying? If I got beef with Unc, man, I really can just hit up Unc, man. You know what I mean? So look, dude, I just do what I do, man. I just, I pull up. I do my job, man.

And look, I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna tell you like I told the guys after the game, man.

Yeah, I could have played better, but I also could have played worse. You know what I'm saying? So like, you know what I'm saying? Come on, man. I don't need you to shoot, man. Frick!

Chad Johnson (1:23)

Hey, that's one of the few times when the first time, Unc, you've ever been able to criticize somebody or I've ever seen anyone critical of an NFL player that's actively playing, but they didn't take it personally.

Shannon Sharpe (1:34)

Right, right.

Chad Johnson (1:35)

They didn't take it personally. That's the first time I heard it.

Shannon Sharpe (1:37)

I think the thing is, it has a lot to do with that. I played with his dad and he can, if he really had something to say, if he really felt some type of way he could hit me up and we could have a conversation about it.

Look, he is a physical corner, but he's not as twitchy as he once was. And being physical, in today's game with the amount of space and they don't allow you to play like that, Ocho. They don't let you get handsy like they once did. If he came up when we played, he was perfect. Cause they would let you beat the hell out of the wide receiver. They don't let you do that anymore. And now, Hump is a strider. So, changing, hey, shifty, quick.

I still think he better suited to safety.

Chad Johnson (2:26)

Yeah. Hey, well, honestly, I got to answer for him. Hey, Hump, you probably going to see this. You got to understand.

I'm a huge advocate for defensive back play. Being that I play receiver, but I love defensive back play. Listen, if you love to be aggressive, what you want to do right now, especially with feeling maybe you're not as twitchy as you used to be, maybe you can't hug the line and be as aggressive as you'd like to, play half a step back than you normally do. Play half a step back than you normally do, and instead of being aggressive, now that you're not as fast, just watch the hips and just shadow. Just shadow because if you do miss, if you happen to miss being that you're not as fast, you're not as twitchy as you used to be, and once they get by you, you know you're done, at least you're in no man's land. So man, listen to your boy, now. Most of the time when you come in the line, you like the press. I know you like the press. Get up there, set yourself up, and take one step back. You hear me? Stab, keep him in position, keep him in front of you, right?

So you're always in position to make a play, and don't let nobody get behind you, and you're gonna be straight. Now this is something that me and you can work on in the off season. We can work on this in the off season to make you a better DB as you get older, and you're not as fast and twitchy as you used to be. There's certain tricks of the trade that you can do to make it look like you still got it, and I can help with that. I can help with that. So how let you put it in the off season, but outside of that, man, keep doing your thing, my boy.
