NEW WIBC Mid-Day Show Hosts Announced!

I know, I happen to know, like the engineering guys are in the back, in the back in their office listening right now, because they are really wanting to know what the deal is with our mid-morning show Hammer. And we're about to make that announcement.

Nigel (0:28)

Joining us on the hotline, the man that can fire us, our boss, David Wood joins us. David, how are you?

David Wood (0:36)

I'm good. Don't worry about it. It won't happen today.

Hammer (0:38)

I'm not in the building.

Nigel (0:40)

Today being the key word there. All right, so before we get to the first person you're going to announce, and there are going to be multiple, before we get to the first person, how difficult of a decision was this?

David Wood (0:54)

Oh, my Lord. I mean, it was very difficult. And I had to tell some people that had done great work in trying to get this job that I was going to go with somebody else, but I had to tell all of them, but you guys were all great. And the good news is, you're going to hear all of them continuing on the radio station at different times.

Nigel (1:21)

Good. Yeah, we have a good bench here at WIBC. I like that. I like that. All right. So let's get into it. The nine to noon show. You've been auditioning people. It's been kind of a carousel of different personalities coming in and out.

When will this show start? Before we get to the name, when will it start?

David Wood (1:42)

So it will start first Monday of October.

Hammer (1:46)

So that's October 5th, October 5th.

Nigel (1:49)

All right, that's the start. Allison, can I get some dramatic music for this first name here, please? All right. Oh, David Wood, program director at 93 WIBC.

Who will be the first host of the new nine to noon show?

David Wood (2:10)

I'm very pleased to announce Tony Katz.

Nigel (2:13)

Oh, come on! Come on!

David Wood (2:16)

David Wood (2:22)

Oh, actually, it won't be Tony, but a voice that will be familiar to our listeners, somebody that they hear on a regular basis, somebody that they hear multiple times a day, and see online and read their material on the website. And I'm very happy to announce that person is Johnette Cruz. Wow.

Nigel (2:48)

Johnette Cruz, come on down!

Hammer (2:51)

Come on down! There she is.

Nigel (2:57)

Look at that little lady walking in studio as our full-time midday co-host. Hi, Johnette. Hi. Congratulations.

The other voice will be somewhat familiar as well, or actually familiar to a lot of people. Hasn't been on the air every day in some time, but coming back from exile is Brian Baker.

Nigel (3:42)

Brian Baker! Oh, not Town Bride.

Hammer (3:47)

We know what we're going to call the show here, Mr. David Wood.

Nigel (3:51)

David, what's the name of this show?

David Wood (3:53)

You know what? We were just texting about that, and that will be the next surprise. We haven't decided yet.

Nigel (4:02)

Okay. Okay. But it will not be the Tony Katz halftime show. That's what we know.

David Wood (4:06)

It will not be the Tony Katz halftime show.

Nigel (4:08)

Good, good. Baker, let me go back to you.

You are currently out of the state of Indiana. Are you coming back?

David Wood (4:18)

I am coming back to my great hometown, the home state of Indiana. Family and I have been talking about it, and we are putting the house up for sale. We are packing up the U-Haul, and we are coming home.

Hammer (4:30)

Right on.

Nigel (4:31)

Amazing.

Hammer (4:31)

It's going to be great to have you back, buddy.

Johnette, what can we expect from the show starting on October 5th?

Hammer (4:38)

Oh, gosh.

Nigel (4:39)

I think a whole lot of everything. I'm still actually going to continue to do the deep dives that I love to do.

David Wood (4:43)

I think it's super important to the community that we still connect with the local people out here and get their stories heard, but also a mix of things happening nationally, things that are trending online. So I think we're going to have a good, good mixture of lots of stories that we're going to be talking about.
