Hello, oh, you can see me. Wait, hang on, that joke only works if you know I screwed up the video. No, wait, hang on, it also only works if you're watching video.
Anyway.
Hello, welcome to the Apple Insider Podcast. I'm William Gallagher, our sponsor this week is Claude by Anthropic, and more about that later, unless you're a subscriber to Apple Insider Plus, in which case, Claude who?
I am joined on this particularly interesting week by Wesley Hilliard, and as we're recording this, Apple has finally caved in and said when the new iPhone announcement is due. You may seem to be hesitated there. Yeah, the little boy said, I'm trying to decide whether to boast or not. Let me try boasting. I predicted the date. Let me try undoing that. It was pretty obvious, really. But I genuinely, I had calendars, I was looking, I had a slide roll. You know, if it hadn't been September the 9th, I would have been a bit miffed, and I'm sure that's why Apple did it. Yeah. So, Wes, you have until September the 9th to make your mind up about the iPhone Fold. Is it more real now?

**Wesley Hilliard** (1:11)
Well, surprise and shine, William.

**William Gallagher** (1:14)
Yeah.

**Wesley Hilliard** (1:15)
Interesting way to greet you, but that is the invitation.

**William Gallagher** (1:19)
I assume. Yes, so it is.

**Wesley Hilliard** (1:23)
Maybe the, this is, I really do hate getting into the names and the hints here.

**William Gallagher** (1:30)
The criminology of it all, yeah. It's fun, but yeah.

**Wesley Hilliard** (1:32)
Like we're gonna get a pearlescent iPhone or something silly. We'll see what they do.
We already knew about this September 9th. I already know that I'm gonna order this ultra foldable thing if it actually announces and releases in a reasonable schedule. If it turns out this thing isn't ready till like November, I don't know what I'll do. I might order the regular Pro Max or something, but we'll see what's announced. And if there's five available, I will try to be one of the five that orders it.

**William Gallagher** (2:02)
Okay.
It does occur to me though that surprise and shine, I think everybody knows what's coming.
So is that just an ironic surprise and shine? I don't know. And also, sorry, leaping around, I just said then about if availability later, that never occurred to me, although I think you've said it before. But this week, we're going to talk about the new Macs in a minute. And it's a really long pre-order time. It's like almost a month. And as I was digging through the details, there's one version of one of the Macs where you actually can't pre-order it until October and things. So it's definitely a strange world. Now, who knows? Maybe that's a surprise. Who knows what Apple will say? But I think you're going to say something else, so I just took straight over you rambling away.

**Wesley Hilliard** (2:48)
Just a little house cleaning, I guess, before we get into the rest of the show.
Apple Insider Plus, we're going to be talking about Tim Cook as we record. By the time we record the next episode, Tim Cook will be out as CEO and John Ternes will be in. So we're going to talk about some of our memories of Tim Cook as CEO and how he did, and what we thought of the guy, and just that kind of stuff. And yeah, video is weird. When something fails, it really fails. Last week was an oopsie.
I don't think it was William's fault. And this week-

**William Gallagher** (3:19)
Oh, you're getting nice there.

**Wesley Hilliard** (3:21)
This week I'm also playing around with lighting. So my office probably looks weird this week, and I probably look weird this week. I will figure it out. One day I will have the perfect lighting setup and I will never touch it again, but it is not today.

**William Gallagher** (3:35)
Okay, right. Maybe this is getting a bit inside best for me because you're being so nice saying it wasn't my fault last week. I'm going to have to try to own it. There is actually genuinely a chance it wasn't me, but it's so small that I almost... This is an interesting thing. Whenever you're producing anything, whenever you're doing anything, let's try to broaden this a little bit. It's bad when you screw it up, but it's better than the machinery failing, isn't it? Because at least you can fix it next time. Although I'm really, really conscious that if I've screwed it up again this time, I'm going to sound even more stupid than before. So how about we move on to the fact that...
