Thank you.
All right, welcome to The Young Turks. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian with you guys. We've got two great interviews for you today. Tara Palmeri on the Cornell Seven, which we're gonna do in a second. Very controversial, very interesting story. Naomi Klein talking about the Middle East and fascism on the rise. That's in the top of the second hour. Then we've got throughout the show, the Israelis, up to their usual tricks, were worried that they might murder the filmmakers that expose what they have been doing in Gaza. And of course, there are Israeli Jewish filmmakers, but Zionists don't care at all. And then later in the show, Paxton's madness, the way that he's wasted all of our money is unreal. And then some tech bros weighing in, including defense contractors, saying they can't wait for the televised executions. So lots of interesting, though disturbing material on the show today, as usual, unfortunately these days, okay, Ana.

Well, we're going to get into the Cornell Seven case, which I wish wasn't up to the media to cover. We're not lawyers, we don't have access to all of the documents and evidence. Yet here we are attempting to adjudicate a case involving gang rape. So let's do it.
So you might have heard of the controversial Cornell Seven case, in which an anonymous former student known only as Jane Doe, alleged that seven fraternity brothers from the Chi-Fi chapter at the university gang raped her while she was heavily intoxicated in October of 2024 Now days later, Jane Doe reported the incident to officials at Cornell. At first, it was as though, or it appeared as though, Cornell totally failed to adequately investigate the incident. Additionally, the district attorney who reviewed the case decided against pursuing the prosecution of the seven men. He claimed that there was insufficient evidence. Then on September 16th of this year, nearly two years following the night of the incident, Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit against Cornell University, the fraternity, her own sorority, Delta, Delta, Delta, and the seven men. Now, she claims that the university failed to protect her and that she was unable to consent to sex and she had too much to drink and had snorted ketamine.
This is an excerpt from some of the reporting that CNN did on the story. They write that when plaintiff arrived at the chapter's fraternity house, plaintiff was visibly intoxicated as she had consumed about 10 standard drinks within the past three hours, the complaint said. So that's directly from the lawsuit. The suit also alleges that inside a friend gave Doe a beer and the two danced before he proposed a threesome and took her to another room in the house. There, the friend and another fraternity member allegedly pressured Doe into snorting a substance. They described as ketamine and gave her more alcohol, the lawsuit says. Now at that point, Matthew Ingalls, that's one of the fraternity brothers, proposed a threesome with Jonathan Newell, another fraternity brother. Now both fraternity members then sexually assaulted Doe while she says she was incapable of consent, according to the complaint, which noted one of the men slapped Doe on the buttocks, resulting in bruising. Now Jonathan Newell, again, one of the men who took part in the initial encounter along with Matthew Ingalls, both wrote disgusting and also incriminating messages in a Snapchat group. Now on that night, Newell sent a message saying free P word in the Frats Snapchat group, which included dozens of the Frat brothers. Ingalls also allegedly wrote, quote, I like, quote, like you can walk in and whip it out.
Now the two were expelled from the university.
So why did Tompkins County DA decline to prosecute back in 2024? So a six page statement that she gave to investigators at Cornell also seems to conflict with some of the claims in the lawsuit. In a six page statement signed by Doe to Cornell police, Doe said she was pretty okay with aspects of the initial encounter that night. But she did not consent to other sexual activities later at the fraternity house. We've also seen text messages from Jane Doe in recent days that further complicate the story.
So this is a difficult and nuanced case, one in which many people in the media have strongly taken one side or the other. But I think it's a lot more complicated than that. And luckily, journalist Tara Palmeri is here to help us wade through the details of this story.
