On September 16th, Nasim Nuñez, a player in his third Major League season, has been nominated for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award.

This award recognizes players for their outstanding character, community involvement, and positive contributions both on and off the field. Nuñez, who is 26 years old, has a long history of giving back, inspired by his mother who involved him in charity work from a young age. He's been actively involved with the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, participating in their summer programs, holiday gift drives, and graduation ceremonies. Nuñez also spent time with youth baseball and softball players through the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletics Association. This commitment to community stems from a belief instilled in him early on, that making a difference is just as important as excelling in the game. Nuñez shared that while he used to dream of MVP awards, this nomination has shifted his perspective. He feels his late cousin, who always emphasized the importance of morals, would be proud. The nomination signifies to Nuñez that simply being himself and embodying good character can have a significant impact, a realization that resonates deeply with him. Earlier this week, Nuñez was presented with a plaque recognizing his nomination in a pregame ceremony. He is one of 14 first-time nominees this season.

His manager, Blake Butera, praised Nuñez for his consistent positivity, dedication to the game, and his role as a great teammate and representative of the award's values. This recognition highlights Nuñez dedication to using his platform to uplift others. His journey from childhood charity events to a major league nomination showcases a consistent commitment to making a positive mark beyond the baseball.
