Music distributors agreed to new anti-fraud measures.

X Corp and SpaceXAI just moved to dismiss their lawsuit against Apple, and Apple TV cleaned up at the Emmys last night. It's Tuesday, September 15th, and here's a quick look at some of the news happening in the sphere of tech this morning from Engadget.

AI's growth continues to bring serious opportunities for bad actors to commit crimes. Now the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, which is a trade organization representing over 8,000 record companies, is teaming up with music companies to fight streaming fraud. On Monday, the IFPI launched the Streaming Integrity Initiative, what it calls a new industry commitment to combat streaming fraud and protect artists, songwriters and fans from its harm. The initiative provides five commitments for participating distributors, all of which focus on fraud reduction. The IFPI stresses the importance of taking significant action against ever-improving technology and AI-powered tools. Under the Streaming Integrity Initiative, distributors commit to verifying rights ownership and customer identities through robust rights verification, vetting content using effective tools and processes to identify infringement, fraudulent activity and AI-related risks, act by detecting, investigating and mitigating suspected fraud, including acting against repeat offenders, sharing intelligence where legally permissible, to help prevent bad actors from moving across services and platforms, and measuring and continuously strengthening anti-fraud systems to address evolving threats. Initial music distributors supporting the Streaming Integrity Initiative include Sony Music, Universal Music and Merlin. The IFPI is encouraging more companies to join the initiative.

Elon Musk's X Corp and SpaceXAI have moved to dismiss a lawsuit against Apple, according to a court filing. The suit has been resolved in a federal court in Texas, though Engadget doesn't have any details as to the reasoning behind the dismissal. The original lawsuit was brought forth by Musk's companies last year, and accused Apple of violating antitrust laws. This was because the company integrated ChatGPT tools into Apple Intelligence, which locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and XAI from competing. The complaint also suggested that both Apple and OpenAI were conspiring against SpaceXAI's products, like the occasionally Adolf Hitler praising Chatbot Grok. It went on to accuse Apple of not promoting its apps on the App Store. It's kind of worth noting that many of OpenAI's rivals had apps that spent some time at the top of the App Store charts, even after the partnership with Apple.
