Got a bunch of two way stuff to discuss. But first, I know you were at one time a season ticket holder to the Colts. Were you there? Were you at the game yesterday?
Guy Relford (0:53)
I was not. No, I was at the game. I was a season ticket holder for the first 35 years. The Colts were here.
Nigel (0:59)
You helped in a roundabout way bring the Colts to Indianapolis?
Guy Relford (1:03)
I did. I was as a very, very young lawyer. I was on a legal team that was involved in some of that litigation with the state of Maryland and the city of Baltimore.
The first time I ever did a podcast with you, the old Hammer and Nigel Podcast from Coaches Tavern. We got into that story. It was kind of fun. Love it. But yeah, I had season tickets from the very first year. I've seen the Colts play, I think, in 29 NFL stadiums. I've seen them play all across the country.
Nigel (1:30)
Was this rock bottom this weekend?
Guy Relford (1:32)
Yeah, I mean, you know, we've had 3-in-13 seasons, including Peyton's first year here in 1998 So we've had losing seasons, but I don't remember a loss that felt as ugly. And we've had some ugly loss. Hell, every time we go to Jacksonville, it's an ugly loss.
But...
Jason Hammer (1:51)
And there lies the problem. Every time you go to Jacksonville, it's a loss.
Guy Relford (1:55)
Every single time, but in terms of losing to a team that we absolutely should have beaten, should have beaten by two or three touchdowns, and did so in such a lackadaisical manner, I saw no fire, I saw no enthusiasm from anybody, not the coaching staff.
And it was as low as I remember feeling. I mean, it's easy to remember the last time you felt this low and forget about other times, but man, it was ugly yesterday. And I'm not a burn it down kind of guy. I'm usually the guy going, hey, you know, all you people out yelling to fire everybody. Well, who you got to replace them, right? I mean, it's not just fire everybody. Well, all right, who's going to step in that's going to be better? So let's just take a deep breath. After yesterday, oh, hell no. I was like, burn it all down, man. Fire everybody. Let's just start over.
Jason Hammer (2:44)
And we've seen some bad football here. If you have grown up in Indy and remember those early Colts teams, right? Yeah, you've seen some bad ball, but I wouldn't say the games were boring. This is a boring team right now. Daniel Jones and his mistakes make it a boring game to watch. The defense, no sacks, no big hits, no pressures makes it a boring product to support.
Guy Relford (3:11)
You know, it's such a good point because, you know, what I've seen, what gets crowds really, really fired up, as I've seen the Colts play in a lot of stadiums all over the country is we love tough defense. We love getting sacks. We love stopping drives. We love tackles behind the line. We like, you know, big hits that knock the ball loose.
And this team on defense is just underperformed and underperformed. We don't have a linebacker on this team that I think any other team in the NFL would accept onto their roster. I mean, really.
Jason Hammer (3:43)
Right.
Guy Relford (3:43)
I mean, we don't have.
Jason Hammer (3:45)
You could say that about white receivers that are healthy, too.
Guy Relford (3:48)
And, you know, and the best receivers we have are 104 years old. And so it's just the the the the the Ballard mismanagement is way high on the list. But even the people that are here, I feel bad. We were talking off the air, Jason, and I couldn't agree more with this. There are some all pros on this team, some pros, pros, you know, Forrest Buckner and Big Q, Quentin Nelson and most of all JT. I don't know, I put those other guys right up there with JT too. They deserve to play on a winner. They are good. They're good year in and year out. They lead by example. I feel bad for that small handful of players that deserve to play on a winner. They deserve to go to the playoffs. They deserve to have success in the playoffs.
