And shout out to Premier Arms. They had a great event this past weekend, raising money to help some veterans, a couple of different charity organizations. They had a silent auction and somebody bid money to come on our show to play Is This Anything with Nigel and I. You're kidding me? Yeah.

Jason Hammer (1:07)

Somebody paid pretty big bucks to have a segment of Is This Anything with us and all the money goes to charity.

Guy Relford (1:15)

I love it.

Nigel (1:16)

I love it. Guy, real quick before we get, because Hammer and I have a bunch of two way stuff to give you. I know that's your specialty. But also you do expungements as part of your law practice. And I saw this headline. I don't now. I can't remember which which local news it may have been WTHR, but it said expungements were up 52% over the last decade. Maybe explain what expungements are and why they are up over 52% over the last 10 years.

Guy Relford (1:46)

Yeah, no, it's a great topic, Nigel. And I'm glad you bring it up because expungement, what expungement is, is it's the ability to go in and depending on the level of crime we're talking about, this is relates to prior criminal convictions and depending on the level of crime, you can potentially expunge or in other words, seal that off your record to where it disappears from, you know, people get it in my case or other public databases or your employer is doing a background search on you, your potential employer.

Um, and, and they, they, see your criminal history. Well, any public record can be expunged depending on the level of crime and which, which cleans your record. And, and, and, and in fact, a lot of legislators working on this kind of legislation have called it the second chance law, meaning after a certain amount of time, you've, you know, you've, you've cleaned up your act, you have a clear criminal history for a substantial period of time, you can expunge those off your record. And the reason people come to me for these, that also restores your Second Amendment rights for most convictions, not all. Crimes of domestic violence, that has a separate restoration process. But, but you can restore your Second Amendment rights, you can restore your ability, for instance, to travel overseas. A lot of countries won't let you in with a felony conviction. You can expunge those convictions. You can restore your rights to travel, to, to possess a firearm and otherwise. And the reason those are up so much, I think they said in the last 10 years in that article, and it actually goes back a little farther because in 2013, the legislature greatly expanded the opportunity for people to go in and expunge things off their record. They made more convictions susceptible to expungement.

They expanded it to the type of, as far as the type of convictions go. And so, yeah, I mean, the typical one that I do, somebody's got a drug conviction, you know? I mean, one of my favorite ones was a guy called me.

He said, yeah, I just try to buy a gun. And I was told, not only am I a felon, but I'm a serious, violent felon. And I can't believe that because I've been a pastor in my church and a deacon in my church for like 25 years. And I can't imagine I'm a serious, violent felon. That can't be right. And I said, well, what do you have on your record? He goes, well, there was this cocaine thing way back when. And I go, okay, what was that?
