Guy, I'm sure that you probably didn't get any sleep on Friday nights the night before the Indiana State Convention up at Fort Wayne.
Take me through your thoughts on Max Engeling becoming the Secretary of State nominee. And is this really the party of Jim Banks right now in Indiana?

**Guy Relford** (1:11)
Is it his state? Oh, well, Jim Banks made some power moves and they all paid off for him.

**Hammer** (1:17)
And is he the face of the Republican Party?

**Guy Relford** (1:20)
I think you have to say yes. You know, it's kind of like we weren't real sure what the what the endorsements from President Trump were going to be going into the primaries in Indiana. Remember, we had some people in the General Assembly that President Trump opposed, and we weren't real sure what affects President Trump's endorsements we're going to have. Well, that's really kind of similar in my mind to what we just saw with Jim Banks and the GOP Convention, where when he got behind Max Inglink, then all of a sudden, boom, man, it happened, and people lined up. And so, you have to give credit where credit is due. I do think it's interesting, though, that I think a big reason that Greg Ballard got into this race as a quote unquote independent, I think a big reason the Democrats decided they were going to try to bring a bye back into the Indiana politics in the form of bo-bye, because I think they saw blood in the water with Diego.
And I mean, they saw a weak, weak candidate embroiled in controversy after controversy, and they said, okay, this is our shot. This is what we Democrats, so we can get this take one into.

**Hammer** (2:26)
It took him a while to see it, because I think all of us realized that a long, long time ago. But luckily, all Jim Banks needed for Republicans was 31 days to take a guy who was getting him coffee and turned him into the Secretary of State nominee.

**Guy Relford** (2:40)
Well, that's right. And we can talk about how dysfunctional the GOP seemed to be with all the hit pieces going out over text to delegates and all, you know, the kind of the sophomoric political backstabbing going on. That was all disappointing to see.
But I think at the end of the day, the GOP did what they wanted to do, which is do a little bit of, you know, like in a in a in a in a peanuts cartoon, you know, Lucy has pulled the ball back and, you know, from Charlie Brown missing the ball where the ball was Diego. They were expecting to get, you know, to have have a really easy shot, easy target and then a campaign going after all the misdeeds or accused misconduct of Diego. And all of a sudden that issue is gone. So now Democrats have to win on their own right. And now, as you guys were talking about as I was driving down here, you know, what impact is Greg Ballard really going to have? I just think all those things get a little more interesting. But I think the GOP did what it needed to do, which is remove an easy target in the form of one Diego Morales.

**Hammer** (3:42)
Right. And I'm not a Ballard basher like a lot of people are. Right. You go on like his tweet that Ballard put out saying, here are my signatures. Some of those comments, man, that's some passionate folks, to put it mildly. But I just think outside of Indianapolis, nobody knows who this guy is. He's forgotten about. And this is a statewide race. Indy's big, but he's also a third party.
So I think over under 8.5% is where I've set the total, the ceiling for what Ballard could deliver. And if that's the case, unless he steps on his own crank, Max Engeling can still beat Beau Bay comfortably.
