Hi, I'm Molly Jong-Fast, and this is Fast Politics, where we discuss the top political headlines with some of today's best minds. And Representative Al Green has filed articles of impeachment against President Trump. Again, we have such a great show for you today.
The Latino Vote Podcast, Mike Madrid, stops by to talk about our trade war with Canada and how that will play in the midterms. Then we'll talk to Semafor's Dave Weigel about the transition from primaries to the general election, but first the news.

**Jesse Cannon** (0:33)
Somali, the Supreme Court has upheld Trump's order to overhaul mail-in ballots. Now, I think a lot of people are misinterpreting what this means. They just read the headline. Can you talk us through it?

**Molly Jong-Fast** (0:45)
What would have been better is for them not to have touched it. But what they did was they said that basically that it can go through the court process. They didn't say that Donald Trump can do whatever he wants. Now, will Donald Trump do whatever he wants? Probably, but this internal directive does not regulate the state's voter registration process nor does it impinge on the state's authority to create and enforce a legal code for elections. It doesn't do anything. It just says it can keep going in the courts. Courts deposition of this application does not mean that any measure taken by the government to implement the order will necessarily be lawful. The court noted on that score, time will tell. So it does nothing, but it lets it keep going in the courts.
Now that said, Ketanji, Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor and Elaine Kagan all said, stop it. Like, don't get involved in this. I want to read this line from Brown Jackson because it's very smart now. Here's the quote. It also lets another shoe drop in the Kafka-esque nightmare that our precedents have been steadily creating for certain plaintiffs who seek to bring election related challenges. And again, this is the left-leaning justices trying desperately to get out ahead of the insanity that is Donald Trump. Look, good for the liberal justices for talking about this. This is not game over in any stretch of the imagination. This is more to be revealed, and there will be more. But it is worth realizing that anytime, you know, Donald Trump is quietly, I don't think we talk about this enough, that Trump and the Trump administration is constantly running up to the Supreme Court to get what they want. And sometimes Trump doesn't get it, like with, you remember, he did run up to try to get them to make it so he didn't have to pay E. Jean Carroll the $5 million. So just important to remember that Trump is constantly going to the Supreme Court for his wish list of things he wants.
He's sort of got what he wanted here, but not 100 percent.

**Jesse Cannon** (3:17)
Yeah. So Molly, I know your passion project is talking to your friend, RFK. Jr. Luckily, he doesn't talk back, so we don't have to hear his weird voice.
On his watch, we now have two people dead of measles in Pennsylvania. Heck of a job, Bobby.

**Molly Jong-Fast** (3:33)
So we have more than two people dead from anti-virus.

**Jesse Cannon** (3:38)
Pennsylvania this week.

**Molly Jong-Fast** (3:39)
Right. But recently, we had two people dead from two unvaccinated people who have died of measles. Now, what Jesse is talking about is my commitment to reminding RFK. Jr. that he should resign. And I do that because he should resign. There are a few people who history will judge harder than RFK. Jr. for his complicity in trying to both disassemble our environmental regulations and also to hush anti-vax conspiracies, which result in deaths. Two school-aged children and one adult died last year from measles complication. I just want to point out these are five deaths now.
They're extremely rare, and they're also just not what should be happening. We have a vaccine for measles. I've been vaccinated. You've been vaccinated. What these vaccines mean is that we don't have to die of a disease that is completely preventable, measles. I want to point out that all of this vaccine backlash comes from COVID, from post-COVID craziness. But it is very, very, very, very, very, very, very preventable. And remember that RFK is making cash on this in any which way. He has a, you know, he's involved in this Children's Defense Fund. He is conflicted all the way. But I want to point out that one in five, measles is really nasty and you can get vaccinated anytime you want. Okay. So, I mean, most people our age are vaccinated, but if you're listening to this and you're thinking about not vaccinating your kid, roughly one in five unvaccinated people who will get this virus will end up in the hospital. That is really, really bad. One in five. And it's dangerous for children. Out of up to three out of a thousand children with measles will die. Like that's just so stupid. Like just get your kids vaccinated. One in 20 children with measles will go on to develop pneumonia, which is the leading cause of death from measles among children. You can have brain swelling. I mean, you can have lifelong hearing damage. You could have intellectual disabilities. It's just so stupid. It's so stupid. We have a perfectly safe vaccine. Don't listen to this dumb, dumb, dumb White House. But beyond that, beyond the vaccine situation, it's also our food supply.
