The day's biggest stories, the people behind the headlines, the conversations you won't hear anywhere else.

I'm Christy Strawser. You're listening to Audacy's On Deadline. A plot to attack the Mall of America has been thwarted. More from Susie Jones in Minneapolis.

Susie Jones (0:16)

Eighteen-year-old Shikdu Adulahi Mohammed was arrested yesterday at a park in Richville and charged today with a federal crime to commit terrorism. Mohammed allegedly purchased an AK-47 and 200 rounds of live ammunition with the intent to kill between 30 and 60 people.

US. Attorney Daniel Rosen on when it was time for officials to intervene.

Daniel Rosen (0:42)

When he started talking about dates and methods and the level of enthusiasm and commitment toward it, the determination to intervene and disrupt was made and to do it at the soonest possible time.

SPEAKER_4 (0:58)

Sheikhdoun Abdollahi Mahmoud was immediately arrested yesterday at a public park in Richfield after purchasing an AK-47 and 200 rounds of live ammunition. Rosen on the actions taken by law enforcement.

Daniel Rosen (1:11)

They were able to detect a threat and disrupt it before the defendant carried out his intention to kill, in his words, maybe 30 to 60 people.

SPEAKER_4 (1:20)

Special agent Christopher Dotson on the messages Mahmoud sent to others.

Christopher Dotson (1:24)

They document the idolization of ideologically motivated violence, a callous disregard for the sanctity of human life, a blind hatred of people of other faiths, and a cold commitment to carrying out his vision of violence in our community.

Christy Strawser (1:42)

If Fox News was a person, it would be thinking about settling down, finding that special someone, maybe starting a family, saving up to buy a house. So what's Fox News up to for its 30th birthday?

SPEAKER_6 (1:55)

If I say to you, who is the number one person when you think of Fox News? Who is it? For you, who is it?

SPEAKER_7 (2:01)

Still Bill O'Reilly.

SPEAKER_6 (2:03)

I think it might be still for me also.

SPEAKER_7 (2:06)

Hannity's right there. Tucker's got to be in the mix.

SPEAKER_6 (2:10)

Yeah. I mean, the five just crushes it, right? So that's Jesse Waters.

SPEAKER_7 (2:19)

Gutfeld.

SPEAKER_6 (2:20)

Gutfeld. I think it's possible that if you actually met Waters behind the scenes, he would be this normal guy. He's just, I'm playing a total bit.

SPEAKER_7 (2:29)

He's so loathsome on the air and he might be a normal dude. That's what I don't know.

You're right. On air, it's just.

SPEAKER_6 (2:37)

Well, he started as like O'Reilly's just flunky, where O'Reilly would just send him somewhere to go disrupt things and be annoying.

SPEAKER_7 (2:47)

He was the Guillermo.

SPEAKER_6 (2:49)

Exactly. Right?

SPEAKER_7 (2:51)

He was the Rupert G.

SPEAKER_6 (2:53)

Dana Perino's on that. Jessica Tarloff. Judge Janine used to be on it. That one has a ton of success.

You know, O'Reilly compared to Fox now is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who he was then. Like, he's...

SPEAKER_7 (3:13)

Bit of a stretch.

SPEAKER_6 (3:14)

He's rolled over now. You know, we've had O'Reilly on here, what would you say? Half dozen times or so.

SPEAKER_7 (3:20)

Been a while.

SPEAKER_6 (3:21)

And I've wrestled with it every time because I think he's a very good guest. The first time he came on, I think this is before you were with us here.

I said, because they reached out, they said, we think your show is a fit. And I said, I will do it. But we need to have two segments. And the first has to be about the money paid and the harassment. And I thought he was actually pretty honest on some of it. And two of us have had this conversation where I've wrestled it because the allegations and the money is horrifying. What are you in a pain? Lise Wheel, who used to be a semi-regular guest on this show too. And O'Reilly has been, he's not the complete Trump rollover guy when he's been on with us, but then there'll be like some airports confrontation, something else, and I'm like, God, we have a lot of Republicans on, even though I think he's a good communicator, but if he keeps making just such a jackass of himself. Yeah. Do we do it? And then they reached out four or five times on different books and we said no. And then we tried sometime recently, and I think they probably thought, wait a sec, we reach out to you. Why are you now reaching out? At the time when O'Reilly was on, I watched, I recorded it and watched it almost every day and wanted to see that perspective because he was definitely a Republican. He was a traditional Republican. He would convince folks on the left to come on. He was like the one show. I thought his two interviews with Obama, Super Bowl, I thought they were good. I know probably a lot of people were apoplectic because he was jumping in and interrupting him. I didn't mind it at all, right?
