This episode is given in loving memory of Whitney Capps, a dear friend and fellow woman in the Word of God every day. Well done, Whit. We love you.

And so we get to see that the human Jesus model this way that is not easy, but it is straight.

Don Payne (0:24)

You know, his faithfulness through the temptation period in the wilderness, there is more to that than often meets the eye, and certainly more that we need.

Because you talked about his sinlessness. Yes, he was, Hebrews is clear, he was without sin. But because Luke is insistent on his full humanity, he was as vulnerable and as frail and finite as we are, as any of us are. So those temptations were as fierce for him because they played to his vulnerabilities, his natural human finitude and weakness and the desire to take shortcuts and get out of the suffering and get, you know, do a work around that's easier. Each of those temptations played to something that was, it was very natural and human.

Hello and welcome to the She Reads Truth Podcast. She Reads Truth creates beautiful, accessible Bible reading plans and resources to help you get into God's word every day. Each week here on the podcast, we talk about what we're going to read together as a community this week. I'm your host, Raechel Myers.

Amanda Bible Williams (1:45)

And I'm your other host, Amanda Bible Williams. And this is week 1 of our Luke series. We are going to be in the Gospel of Luke for five weeks. There's your reading guide, which hopefully you already have. If you don't head over to shop, she reads truth.com and grab one. Our guest today is one of my favorite people. It's Dr. Don Payne. He is a professor emeritus of theology at Denver Seminary, recently retired as Dean there and one of my seminary professors. And we just, he needs no introduction. We love him. I have a sweatshirt with his face on it. And if you're watching video, you'll see that.

Yeah. We just love having Dr. Payne on anytime. And he has so much to share with us.

Rachel Myers (2:27)

I don't have a sweatshirt with his face on it. So it's somewhat left out, but that's fine. That's fine. I'm trying to think what else you guys need to know. This is a big week.

This is, if you're listening to this on October 5th, the day it releases, Thursday this week, we are having our very first of all time in almost 15 years. We're having a live event and it's free. And we want you to come. It is, I think from 11 o'clock to one o'clock, central time, this Thursday, you can go to shereadstruth.com to sign up. Again, it's free. Please join us. We have great guests. The whole thing, Amanda and I are hosting it, but we have four really wonderful speakers, many of whom you will know and love.

Amanda Bible Williams (3:08)

I'm going to tell you who they are, Kristi McClelland, Courtney Doctor, Joanna Weaver and Katie Davis Majors. So don't miss it. It's the Knowing God Summit. We're going to talk about how we can read the Bible with confidence to know God.

Rachel Myers (3:24)

I mean, that feels very important for us. I'm very excited. Other things that you need to know, we will be in Luke for five weeks following Luke. We have a brand new study called Sing to the Lord. Here is my podcast copy, Nour the Spiral Lining.

But this is a three-week study about songs in scripture, which we will get to jump into and it'll be our little bridge between Luke and Advent. I'm excited and I think we have really good guests. We'll tell you about them later. I feel like we're giving you a lot of information right now. Okay. We'll start with He Reads Truth. You guys have seen the He Reads Truth book. Love that tartan.

Amanda Bible Williams (3:58)

Let there be light.

Rachel Myers (3:59)

Let there be light. Here is our Advent book for the year. It is available for purchase and will ship to you when you order it. We are in stock right now, which is great news. Love it be light. We will talk more about this, but we're really pumped about Advent this year.

And speaking of Christmas, you guys probably heard us talk about something that we have, apart from our daily Bible reading, we have an annual thing that we created as a team this year.

Maybe you've heard us talk about it, but This Is Our Christmas Story is a family keepsake journal. And it is just this beautiful way to not just remember as a family the Christmas story, but your family's story of Christmases year after year after year. More to come on that. But we wanted you guys to know about that.
