It's October 20th. New York Rangers News Today starts now. AI powered and ready for kickoff. All right, big news for hockey fans coming out of New York. Veteran center Luke Glendening has signed a professional tryout agreement with the Rangers. This comes after Joe Veleno, another former Red Wings player, went down with a lower body injury expected to keep him out for about three months. Glendening's got some experience under his belt, having played eight seasons with Detroit. He spent last season with the New Jersey Devils, and the Philadelphia Flyers, where he appeared in 70 games, scoring two goals and adding seven assists. Got to respect that kind of commitment, especially as he pushes into his late 30s.

The Rangers are banking on Glendening's face-off skills. He's won over 52 percent of his draws throughout his career. They need depth at center, especially with Veleno sidelined. If he can show up strong in practice, he might just secure a roster spot, but a tryout doesn't guarantee anything, so it's a wait and see situation. For longtime fans of the Detroit Red Wings, Glendening is a familiar face.

This guy came up as an undrafted player from the University of Michigan, eventually becoming an alternate captain in Detroit. His journey is one of hard work and determination, which resonates deeply with fans.

So, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out for Glendening with the Rangers. He's got a chance to extend his NHL career, and for one of hockey's underdog stories, that's definitely worth following.
