I'm a nurse at Brigham and Women's Hospital, the trauma surgical ICU.

How long have you been a nurse?

Almost 27 years.

Can you tell us a little bit about your educational background?

I have a bachelor's in nursing from Salem State University.

How long have you worked at Brigham and Women's?

20 years this week.

Which unit did you say you worked in?

The Trauma Surgical ICU.

How long have you worked in that unit at Brigham?

Eight years.

Going back to January of 2023, were you working in that same unit? Yes.
What was the shift that you normally worked?

**Rachelle Amedee** (1:26)
I worked the night shifts, which is 7 PM, 7 AM.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:30)
What was your schedule like for any given week? Did you work back-to-back shifts or?

**Rachelle Amedee** (1:36)
I can sometimes work back-to-back shifts.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:38)
Okay. But you always worked the night shift?

**Rachelle Amedee** (1:42)
The night shift.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:43)
Okay. I'm going to draw your attention to a particular patient that you had some interaction with in January of 2023, and that was Lindsay Clancy. Do you recall treating her?

**Rachelle Amedee** (1:55)
Yes.

Was she in that trauma surgical intensive care unit?

**Rachelle Amedee** (2:01)
Yes.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:02)
Do you remember the first time you interacted with her?

**Rachelle Amedee** (2:06)
Yes. I got her.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:08)
Would that have been on the first night she was there on January 24th?

**Rachelle Amedee** (2:11)
Yes.

How did she come to your unit at the Brigham?

**Rachelle Amedee** (2:16)
She came from the emergency room, went to MRI, then came to the ICU to me.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:23)
Were you aware that she had been seen at a local hospital?

**Rachelle Amedee** (2:27)
Yes.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:28)
In Weymouth, the South Shore Hospital? South Shore.
While you were treating her on that first night, were you the main nurse assigned to her care? Yes. What were your responsibilities as the nurse assigned to her care on that first night?

**Rachelle Amedee** (2:49)
First night, she was intubated, came to me intubated. We had to maintain her blood pressure at a certain number, just care, regular nursing care.

Were you aware that she was on what's called the one-to-one?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:04)
Yes.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:05)
What does that mean?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:06)
That means patient usually can't be left alone and also depending. You always have to have somebody outside the room with monitor of patient.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:18)
Is that because that patient has been identified as a potential suicide risk?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:22)
Yes.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:22)
Okay. Now, on the 24th into the early morning hours of the 25th, was there a particular event that you are witness to for this particular patient?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:35)
She coded.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:36)
What does that mean?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:37)
Means her blood pressure dropped for her. It meant her blood pressure drops and it wasn't sustainable with life.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:45)
What did you do when her blood pressure fell and she coded?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:49)
We started CPR, we did compressions.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:54)
This event occurred approximately at 3.3 in the morning, correct?

**Rachelle Amedee** (3:57)
Yes.

**SPEAKER_3** (3:59)
Was she eventually stabilized after that code?

**Rachelle Amedee** (4:01)
She was.

**SPEAKER_3** (4:02)
Did they do something as far as intervention to try to maintain her blood pressure?

**Rachelle Amedee** (4:07)
We increased her pressures. We added two more pressures she was already on to. They placed chest tubes and started what we call a massive blood transfusion protocol.

Did this all occur in the trauma surgical intensive care unit, or did she have to be taken to a different unit?

**Rachelle Amedee** (4:30)
No, it all occurred in her room.

**SPEAKER_3** (4:34)
Other than medical staff that were treating her, that particular night, did you observe anybody else present?

**Rachelle Amedee** (4:41)
She had two police officers outside the room.
