Hi, I'm Valerie and you're listening to The Beauty Brains.

Welcome to The Beauty Brains, a show where real cosmetic chemists answer your beauty product questions and give you an insider's look at the cosmetics industry. This is episode 294, and I'm your stuffy host, Valerie George, and with me today is Perry Romanowski. Hi Perry.

Perry Romanowski (0:27)

Hello Valerie, good to see you again.

Valerie George (0:30)

Great to see you. I'm not stuffy in demeanor, I'm just literally stuffed up, but we're gonna get through today's show where we answer questions about what's the difference between Lanolin and Petrolatum? Is it dangerous to use expired lipstick?

And we'll talk about a few hair trends like micellar, lamellar and apple cider vinegar rinses. But first that inane chit chat people do like us for. How are you doing Perry?

Perry Romanowski (0:57)

I'm all right. You know, I was stuffed up last week.

Valerie George (1:01)

Did you give it to me?

Perry Romanowski (1:02)

I don't think so, unless you can pass it through the internet because I haven't seen you. But I'm curious, when you are sick, do you take medicine or anything like for the symptoms?

Valerie George (1:14)

Nah.

Perry Romanowski (1:16)

Yeah, I don't generally either.

Valerie George (1:19)

If I'm just like stuffy, I just wait to see where it goes, you know?

If it starts to go to sore throat, I'll like suck on some lozenges. Sure.

Perry Romanowski (1:29)

You know what, I like that little, I like that spray. Oh, you do?

Valerie George (1:32)

Yeah, I don't like that.

Perry Romanowski (1:35)

Yeah, my wife hates it, but I'm like, oh, use the spray, use the spray.

Valerie George (1:39)

Yeah, no, I'm a Rikala girl, and then I just won't do any talking.

But really, I think it's really bad, and it's like I can't sleep, and I'm coughing, and I can't breathe. I'll take like an Advil-Colden sinus or something like that. But you know, I'm just gonna power through it and see what happens.

Perry Romanowski (1:57)

I am generally of the same ilk.

It doesn't, actually it just doesn't occur to me that you could take something. So, and what I did, because you know what I do sometimes, it doesn't seem like it does anything.

Valerie George (2:09)

Yeah, I know, right? It just kind of helps with the symptoms. It doesn't really facilitate a cure, which is kind of what I would be looking for, right?

Perry Romanowski (2:17)

It's a philosophical thing though. Like some people, like you don't want any symptoms and you might as well treat them. And I don't have a problem with that. And sometimes when I take the stuff, it works. And you're like, oh, gee, I should have took that before.

Valerie George (2:30)

Right, yeah. Well, this week I was at a show called Makeup in LA. And guess what? I got to meet a couple of our Beauty Brains followers.

Oh, did you? One of them is a Patreon supporter, another is a supporter of Simply Ingredients. It was very cool because they recognized me, which was pretty neat.

Perry Romanowski (2:48)

Oh, that's so fun.

Valerie George (2:49)

Yeah, I was like, who are you? No, I'm just kidding. But it was so cool to meet them because it just proves what we're doing is, I think, valuable for people. And that made me really happy.

Perry Romanowski (3:02)

Yeah, and we get lots of great emails from people. We always appreciate the questions and then the little side comments when people write a question in. So that's always fun.

That does remind me, my other website, Chemist's Corner, we started an Instagram account because now I have, my wife is working with me now, so we have time for social media.

Valerie George (3:24)

Oh, fantastic.

Perry Romanowski (3:26)

If you're curious about how cosmetics are made.

Valerie George (3:37)

So chemist's corner was available.

Perry Romanowski (3:40)

I squatted on it years ago and I just never published anything.

It's a little tip for you would be podcasters and website developers.

If you have an idea for something, just go to the social medias and get it all. Like we should have got The Beauty Brains on Instagram, but instead we have The Beauty Brains 2018 because we didn't get. So somebody else took The Beauty Brains.

Valerie George (4:02)

Well, I wonder if they know who we are.

Well, I just followed you, so I'm your 36th follower. Should I unfollow and wait and be your 44th?

Perry Romanowski (4:14)

That would be fun. Yeah.

Valerie George (4:16)

Well, let's head over to some beauty science news, shall we?
